Julien Pinon is going to need an extra suitcase for the trip home after winning his fifth and sixth medals Friday night USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Championships at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C.

The South Florida Aquatic Club swimmer, one of the most successful swimmers at the meet, took a silver medal in the boys’ 11-12 100-meter freestyle in a career-best 57.08 and bronze medal in the 200-meter medley relay.

Pinon was the fastest qualifier after morning prelims in 57.41, slower than his previous best of 57.28. Jackson Defore, 12, of Florida Swimming won the event in 56.03.

In three days, Pinon has won two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals. He won the 200- and 400-meter freestyles, took second in the 100-meter butterfly and bronze on the 400-meter medley relay.

Pinon and his SOFLO teammates Juan Lucas, Tristan Celestin and Cristian Rossi tried to regain their 200-meter medley relay 11-12 national age group record but fell short finishing third in 2:02.53.

Pinon has two more shots at medals on Saturday in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly events.

Florida Gold Coast’s “A” girls’ 11-12 relay of Darby Goodwin, Lindsey Swartz, Arianna Noya and Caroline Nava finished third in 2:04.30.

Florida Gold Coast’s “A” boys 15-18 relay of Austin Manganiello, Daniel Spas, Austin Saunders and Wali Toulson took a bronze with a third place finish in 1:49.42.

The pool events conclude on Saturday night with the open water swimming set for Sunday.
