GOLD Masters Swimmers Win Seven Gold Medals at Masters Nationals

It was a good day for GOLD Masters at the U.S. Masters Long Course Summer National Championships Friday at Auburn University’s James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

GOLD swimmers captured seven gold medals, the team’s biggest gold medal haul of the four-day meet.

David Quiggin and Pat Sargeant were double gold medal winners for GOLD.

Quiggin, 67, won the 65-69 400-meter freestyle in 5:27.13 and 100-meter freestyle in 1:03.

Sargeant, 58, won the 55-59 50-meter butterfly in 34.18 and 100-meter freestyle in 1:09.71.

Other individual gold medalists were:

Former U.S. national team member Todd Pace, 43, in the 40-44 50-meter butterfly, 26.39.

Cav Cavanaugh, 76, in the 75-79 100-meter freestyle, 1:13.30.

Maureen Hughes, 58, in the 55-59 50-meter backstroke, 37.26.

Coral Springs Masters’ Barbara Protzman, 57, was fifth in the 200-meter individual medley in 3:12.84 and sixth in the 50-meter butterfly in 37.58.
