University School Sweeps Tri-Meet, Kopas Sisters Lead Girls Team

Sisters Emily and Allison Kopas, Marco Hosfeld and Daniel Pereira led University School’s tri-meet sweep Wednesday at the Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Center.

The sisters each won two individual events and were members of the winning 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

Emily Kopas, fresh off her recruiting trip to Duke, won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.85 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.81.

Allison Kopas won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.65 and 100-yard freestyle in 56.35.

Suns teammate Evy Sands was also a double winner, capturing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:43.36 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.65.

Hosfeld won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.51 and 100-yard backstroke in 56.48.

Pereira won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.64 and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay.

The tri-meet was a tune-up for the Suns Invitational on Saturday at NSU. The timed finals meet will feature Boca Raton, Miami Pace, Chaminade, Sagemont, Calvary Christian, South Florida Heat and Zion Lutheran.

The invitational is one of three meets this weekend featuring South Florida teams. The others are the 23rd annual Florida Catholic Swimming and Diving Championships in Orlando featuring Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop McCarthy, Pope John Paul II and St. Thomas Aquinas among a field of 17 schools; and the FSPA Invitational in Stuart.
