SOFLO Hosts Distance, IMX/IMR Challenge This Weekend

September 26, 2013

Host South Florida Aquatic Club , with more than 100 swimmers including three-time Olympian Alia Atkinson, heads the field for the Distance, IMX/IMR Challenge that begins Friday at Academic Village Pool.

SOFLO has 122 swimmers (63 boys and 59 girls) competing in 576 individual events over three days beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. with the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Swimmers will get a chance to see how they stack up against the rest of the nation in two unique meets, IMR (Ready) Challenge and IMX (Xtreme) Challenge.

All sessions are timed finals.

The USA Swimming-sanctioned meets are fun, motivational meets to help young swimmers reach the next level in their swimming careers.

The IMR Challenge lets swimmers see how they compare to other swimmers around the nation in their age group. Swimmers must compete in all the events required for their age group to establish a score.

Once a swimmer competes in each IM Ready event at least once in an official meet, swimmers and parents can check out their rankings on USA Swimming’s website.

The IMX Challenge is the next step-up from the IMR competition. It includes a series of five or six events. Once swimmers complete the IMX program they can see where their scores rank nationally, in their local LSC and even their own swim club.

Several swimmers are participating in both sessions including high school swimmers, in the midst of their season, and Olympian Atkinson, gearing up for the FINA World Cup event in Dubai next month.

Among SOFLO’s top seeds are:

Melissa Marinheiro, 16; CJ Kopecki, 14; Nicolas Rossi, 10; Vanessa Mesa, 11; Rafael Rodriguez, 11; Kathleen Golding, 12; Brandon Moran, 12; Kevin Porto, 13; Kelley Heron, 14; Alia Atkinson, 24; Gustavo Valery, 15; Michael Arias, 10; Delanie Perez, 13; Samuel Quintero, 13; Jessica Rodriguez, 14; Jordan Colon, 16; Joseph Lee, 10; Isabella DiSalvo, 11; Bryant Segui, 12; Ervin Marin, 13; Molly Golding, 10; Delanie Perez, 13.
