SOFLO Swimmers Shine In High School State Meet Build-Up Meets

South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers continue to do well in high school swim meets leading up to next month’s state meet in Stuart.

Pembroke Pines Charter knocked off Cypress Bay, 158-142, for one of the program’s biggest wins on Wednesday night at Academic Village Pool.

Pembroke Pines Charter sophomore Monica Rodriguez won the 200-yard individual medley.

Teammates Victoria Hill, a junior, won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.39. Leysha Caraballo, also a junior, won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.13.

Pembroke Pines Charter also won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:06.82.

Cypress Bay’s Kylie Herman won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.22.

In Cooper City’s 93-83 win over Deerfield Beach, Cooper City freshman Natasha Testa won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.91.

West Broward freshman Stephanie Mlujeak won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:05.50. Teammates Melissa Marinheiro won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.58 and Amber Hunter won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.19.

In Cooper City’s narrow 99-81 loss to Deerfield Beach, Teddy Sandoval of Cooper City won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.90 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.82.

Freshman Juan Lucas of Pembroke Pines Charter won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.66 in the Jaguars’ 163-123 loss to Cypress Bay.

Pembroke Pines Charter won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Other Pembroke Pines Charter individual winners were senior Blake Kelley in the 50-yard freestyle (23.65) and sophomore Alexander Viloria in the 100-yard freestyle (53.51).

In West Broward boys’ 85-5 rout of Stranahan, Alex Monti of West Broward won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.22.

After sweeping Coral Glades on Wednesday, Nova High School is one of the few undefeated teams in Broward County. The girls are 8-0 and riding a 21-dual meet win streak. The boys are also 8-0 and have won 31 in a row. In the Titans meet against Coral Glades, Alex Sanchez was named Girls Swimmer of the Meet and Brandon Parkinson was named Boys Swimmer of the Meet.
