SOFLO Dominates Distance Events On Day One Of Mike Horgan Memorial Invitational

South Florida Aquatic Club dominated the boys and girls distance events on the opening day of the third annual Mike Horgan Memorial Invitational Meet at Lake Lytal in West Palm Beach.

SOFLO swimmers got off to an outstanding start winning six individual events on Friday.

Double winner CJ Kopecki led the boys team.

Kopecki, 14, swept the 400-yard individual medley in 4:24.18 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.92.

Rafael Rodriguez, 11, won the 500-yard freestyle in 507.29.

Sisters Kathleen and Molly Golding and Annita Huang led the girls team.

Kathleen Golding, 13, won the 13-14 400-yard individual medley in 4:38.08.

Molly Golding, 10, won the 10-and-under 500-yard freestyle in 5:55.59.

Huang, 12, won the 11-12 500-yard freestyle in 5:37.31.

SOFLO age group swimmers, from age 8 to 19, competed in the three-day meet.

The Florida Gold Coast Top 16 Fall Invitational is named in honor of one of the most beloved and well-respected coaches in the Florida Gold Coast. Horgan, Lake Lytal’s head developmental coach, died of a heart attack at age 50 in August, 2011.

12-and-under, 1. Erika Wesch, JDST 5:06.95; 13-14, 1. Kathleen Golding, SOFLO 4:38.08; 15-and-over, 1. Fabiana Ingram, Lake Lytal 4:51.25.

500-yard freestyle:

10-and-under, 1. Molly Golding, SOFLO 5:55.59; 11-12, 1. Annita Huang, SOFLO 5:37.31; SOFLO: 8. Alexandra Crespo 5:51.36, 14. Valentina Carrion 6:24.93; 13-14, 1. Camryn Hudson, Lake Lytal 5:25.14; SOFLO: 6. Abolade Oyetunji 5:46.64; 15-and-over, 1. Katie Ligon, GRS 5:11.48.


400-yard individual medley:

12-and-under, 1. Adrian Aguilar, Metro Aquatics 4:29.25; SOFLO: 4. Brandon Moran 5:04.30; 13-14, 1. CJ Kopecki, SOFLO 4:24.18; 15-and-over, 1. William Pisani, Lake Lytal 4:21.18.

500-yard freestyle:

10-and-under, 1. Reese Branzell, Lake Lytal 6:07.05; 11-12, 1. Rafael Rodriguez, SOFLO 5:07.29; SOFLO: 4. Leonardo Mateus 5:31.00 13-14, 1. CJ Kopecki, SOFLO 4:57.92; SOFLO: 2. Kevin Porto 4:59.14, 9. Samuel Quintero 5:22.28, 12. Andres Arias 5:30.37, 15-and-over, 1. Joey Pedraza, Unattached 4:28.28.
