South Florida Aquatic Club is ending its outstanding year in the national spotlight.

Nike Swim has selected SOFLO as its’ Team of the Month for December.

The team will be featured on its Facebook Page and newsletter.

Julia Wilkinson-Minks, Nike Swim Sports Marketing representative, informed team officials earlier this week.

Last month the Woodlands Swim Team was featured as November Team of the Month. Other teams honored have been the University of Puerto Rico, Orlando-based YCF Diving, Willamette Valley Water Polo, Mission Viejo Nadadores Diving Team and First Colony Swim Team.

The Nike Swim-sponsored SOFLO team, one of the most balanced teams from successful 6-and-unders and age group program to three-time Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson, enjoyed its best year in swimming in the club’s 14-year history.

For the first time, SOFLO swept the combined, girls and boys team titles for the first time at a major meet, the Florida Gold Coast’s 23rd annual Winter Championships. SOFLO won the team title with 1,922.50 points.

SOFLO has established itself as one of USA Swimming’s premier age group swim clubs. SOFLO swimmers are among 300,000 swimmers across the nation competing at nearly 2,800 USA Swimming-sanctioned clubs.

Atkinson, a multi-national record holder, is coming off her best showing and biggest payday on the FINA World Cup Series Circuit and AT&T Winter National Championships where she won two national titles.

“I do feel SOFLO is emerging as one of the mega-teams in South Florida,” said SOFLO CEO and head coach Chris Anderson, also Nike Swim Coach of the Month.

“It’s been hard work and dedication on the part of the kids and coaches,” Anderson said. “We really feel we have been climbing this mountain for a while. Now our kids are really being noticed because they are beginning to win a lot more races individually.”
