Dave Thomas, USA Swimming’s Southern Zone sport development consultant, will share his vast knowledge and ideas with parents and coaches on Wednesday at Academic Village Pool in Pembroke Pines.
SOFLO, looking to build on its already successful 14-year-old program, has invited parents and SOFLO Booster Club members to meet with Thomas.
Thomas is scheduled to meet with the SOFLO parents, 5-6:30 p.m. Among discussion topics:
How the Booster Club can aid the swim team.
Identifying the role of SOFLO staff and coaches.
Identifying and understanding the swim parents’ role
Thomas will meet with the SOFLO Booster Club over dinner 7-9 p.m. and discuss:
How the Booster Club can aid the swim team and staff and make SOFLO employees more efficient.
Motivating volunteerism such as officials and meet administration help.
The importance of team travel and overnight competitions and the creative ways of financing the team trips.
SOFLO CEO and head coach Chris Anderson invited Thomas, based at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, to help parents understand what goes into building the base, promoting the sport and achieving competitive success and how parents can be more involved.
Thomas has more than 20 years of on-deck coaching experience. He has a Masters degree from University of Iowa.
Thomas has coached at every swimming level including NCAA Division I and Division III, YMCA, AAU, USA Swimming, high school and summer leagues.
Thomas travels through USA Swimming’s Southern Zone working with coaches, athletes, parents and booster clubs to help improve the sport.
At least one parent from each of our SOFLO swim families should attend the informative session.
