South Florida Aquatic Club started off strong on opening night of the Florida Gold Coast SOFLO Open Invitational Friday at the Academic Village Pool.

Molly Golding, 10, won two individual events with lifetime-best times.

Golding won the 10-and-under 200-yard freestyle in 2:13.87, dropping from her previous best of 2:16.44.

Golding also won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:33.17, dropping from 2:34.22.

SOFLO teammate Annita Huang, 12, won the 11-12 200-yard individual medley in 2:24.73, also a best time, dropping from 2:27.35. Huang was also second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.17.

SOFLO’s Andrea Pereira, 12, won the 200-yard freestyle in a best time 2:05.58, dropping from 2:07.25.

SOFLO’s Melissa Marinheiro, 16, won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:11.31, dropping 4.78 seconds off her previous best time.

Jessica Rodriguez swam the breaststroke during the 1,000-yard freestyle race and went 1:11.87 for a 100-yard split and 2:30.06 for a 200-yard split.

Rafael Rodriguez made his first Speedo Champs cut in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:18.86).

SOFLO’s Nicolas Rossi, 10, won the 10-and-under 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.44.

“I am pleased with the way the team came together tonight,” SOFLO head coach Chris Anderson said. “They warmed up well, functioned as a group and did some nice team cheers.

“They know we are riding a wave of success right now and working towards defending our titles and tonight was a really nice start to it,” Anderson said.

The three-day meet, which features a strong field, continues on Saturday with two sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
