It’s show time.

Three-time defending champion South Florida Aquatic Club is ready for the championship season that begins Friday with the Florida Gold Coast 14&Under Junior Olympics at the Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO, buoyed by depth and talent, are among the favorites going into the three-day meet.

Last year SOFLO made history by winning the combined team title for the first time in the club’s 14-year history.

SOFLO was the two-time defending champion but it was the first time the City of Pembroke Pines only competitive swim team won the title as a stand-alone team after severing ties with Coral Springs.

“I was really excited for the coaches and office staff,” SOFLO head coach Chris Anderson said. “It showed that the SOFLO and Comets staff can produce a really good product. It was about a team coming together and working for a common goal.”

SOFLO swept through the FGC JO and Senior meets last year during the short course and long course seasons and hope to duplicate their efforts this year.

Other top FGC teams competing are Metro Aquatics, St. Andrew’s Swimming, Hialeah, Pine Crest Swimming and Azura.

Among SOFLO’s top seeds are:

Molly Golding, 10, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:20.06; 200-yard freestyle, 2:13.87.

Ervin Marin, 14, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:02.52.

CJ Kopecki, 14, 100-yard butterfly, 54.77.

Rafael Rodriguez, 12, 100-yard individual medley, 1:01.53; 200-yard individual medley, 2:09.68.

Kathleen Golding, 13, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:26.34; 200-yard individual medley, 2:07.83.

Nicolas Rossi, 10, 200-yard freestyle, 2:10.44.

The top six swimmers in each event will automatically qualify for the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team. The All-Star meet is April 5-6 at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.
