South Florida Aquatic Club will mix a little fun with swimming during a road trip to the annual Gulf Coast Swim Team Summer Long Course Invitational in Fort Myers.

The four-day meet begins Thursday at the Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatic Center. It is one of seven meets the host Gulf Coast Swim team stages each year.

SOFLO is among 22 teams competing including six Florida Gold Coast teams. Several out-of-state teams are competing including Canton City Schools, Charger Aquatics, Germantown Academy, Lobo Aquatic Club, Riviera Swim Team, Waves Bloomington and Tide Swimming. Nearly 600 swimmers are entered.

Among SOFLO’s top seeds are:

CJ Kopecki, 14, 800-meter freestyle, 8:49.23 and 200-meter freestyle, 2:02.18.

Kathleen Golding, 13, 200-meter freestyle, 2:09.43, 400-meter individual medley, 5:02.19, 200-meter breaststroke, 2:47.31, 200-meter individual medley, 2:26.11, 100-meter freestyle, 1:00.74 and 50-meter freestyle, 28.28.

Rafael Rodriguez, 12, 200-meter freestyle, 2:07.94, 50-meter breaststroke, 39.91, 100-meter breaststroke, 1:19.47, and 50-meter freestyle, 28.37.

The field features an impressive combination of age group and elite swimmers headed by Emma Svensson, 21, of Swim Florida and Swedish national team and Brazil Olympian Felipe Lima, 29, of Azura Florida Aquatics.

SOFLO was scheduled to leave for the meet early Thursday morning.

The timed final distance events will open the meet on Thursday. The schedule of events is 10-and-under 400-meter freestyle, 11-12, 13-14 and senior 800-meter freestyle and 13-14 and senior 1500-meter freestyle.

SOFLO’s Marcella Marinheiro competes for Florida Gulf Coast and will be a sophomore in the fall.
