Melissa Marinheiro and Kathleen Golding will compete at the Speedo Junior National Championships that get under way Wednesday at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex in Irvine, California.
Golding will compete in the 400-meter individual medley. Her best time is 4:57.67.
Marinheiro will swim four events: 800-meter freestyle (8:57.89), 400-meter freestyle (4:20.69), 200-meter freestyle bonus (2:05.69) and 1500-meter freestyle (17:04.87).
Marinheiro will swim the 800 on opening day. She is seeded 39th.
The remaining Wednesday events are 200-meter butterfly, 100-meter breaststroke and men’s 1500-meter freestyle.
Golding is seeded 45th in the 400 IM which she will swim on Thursday.
The duo will be joined by SOFLO head coach Chris Anderson, who returned to the states after coaching the Jamaican national team including SOFLO’s Alia Atkinson, at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and training camp in Corby, England.
The junior meet will highlight the up-and-coming swimmers from around the nation.
Several Florida Gold Coast clubs will be well-represented including Pine Crest Swimming, St. Andrew’s Swimming, Azura Florida Aquatics, Lake Lytal Lightning and Swim Fort Lauderdale. Bolles, Swim Florida, Clearwater Aquatics and Trinity Prep head the Florida Swimming teams.
The meet is open to foreign athletes. Trinidad and Tobago’s Josh Romany heads the international contingent. He will compete in the 100 butterfly and 50, 100 and 200 freestyles.
The meet will be live-streamed at usaswimming.org.
The venue will also host Senior Nationals one week later. Florida State-bound Marc Rojas of SOFLO will compete.
