November 7, 2014—Jessica Rodriguez of Hialeah Gardens was South Florida Aquatic Club’s top finisher Friday night at the Pinch-A-Penny FHSAA State 4A Swimming and Diving Championships at Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center in Stuart.

Making her second state meet appearance, Rodriguez, one of the youngest swimmers in the meet was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:05.53.

The sophomore also won the “B” final, finishing ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.07, a junior national “B” cut. She already has her “A” cut in the breaststroke.

“I am pretty happy,” Rodriguez said. “I am glad I got my junior cut in the 200 IM and went all season-bests

“The competition is very good up here,” she said. “I am not upset at all. I am very happy with my swims. I felt really good. I thought I would be a little tired after prelims but I did pretty well.

“It feels good to have two state meets under my belt. Two years ago I never expected to come in fourth at states as a sophomore.”

Said SOFLO coach Chris Anderson: “As far as being in season, I am really happy with her progress. We are targeting junior nationals in Seattle. Her season is progressing nicely and she had a great state meet.”
