January 28, 2016—A record field of more than 800 swimmers will compete in the SOFLO Open at Academic Village Pool.

It is the largest meet South Florida Aquatic Club, Comets and Booster Club have hosted in the team’s 16-year history.

The three-day meet gets under way Friday with one session of 12-and-under 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley events and 12-and-under and 13-and-over 1,000 freestyle events.

Two sessions are scheduled each day on Saturday and Sunday with the older swimmers competing in the morning session and younger swimmers competing in the afternoon.

Host SOFLO has the largest contingent with 120 swimmers (61 boys, 59 girls) competing in 792 individual and eight relay events.

In addition to most of the Florida Gold Coast teams competing, SWIFT will add an international flavor. The Bahamian team, coached by Andy Loveitt, is sending seven swimmers. They are Olivia Blue, 12, Katelyn Cabral, 12, Jasmine Gibson, 16, Darren Laing, 14, Shimon Lopez, 14, Tenniya Martin, 14, and Kris Smith, 15. Cabral is seeded first in the 12-and-under 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.06.
