Rodriguez Top SOFLO Finisher On Day One Of Gulliver Winter Invitational

February 12, 2016—Rafael Rodriguez was top finisher for South Florida Aquatic Club Friday on Day One of the Gulliver Winter Invitational.

Rodriguez, 14, was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:57.55, just 0.77 shy of a best time. Miguel Cancel, 16, of Gulliver won in a best time 9:17.49, dropping 23.45.

SOFLO’s John Paul Handal posted a best time in the 400-yard individual. Handal, 13, was seventh in 4;44.68, shaving 1.17 off his previous best.
The three-day meet continues on Saturday with two sessions.

400-yard individual medley:

1.Brooke Ellis, Gulliver 4:30.39, 2. Emily Cordovi, Gulliver 4:41.43, 3. Olivia Hernandez, Gulliver 4:47.58

1,000-yard freestyle:

1.Kelly Fertel, Gulliver 10:09.78, 2. Alicia Mancilla, Gulliver 10:16.59, 3. Marcella Ruppert-Gomez, Gulliver 10:19.02

BOYS

400-yard individual medley:

1.Trey Gribble, Gulliver 4:10.69, 2. Marcelo Lauzurique, Gulliver 4:17.72, 3. Javier Sanchez, Gulliver 4:22.98; SOFLO: 7. John Paul Handal 4:44.68.

1,000-yard freestyle:

1.Miguel Cancel, Gulliver 9:17.49, 2. Nick Carter, Gulliver 9:20.96, 3. Rafael Rodriguez, SOFLO 9:57.55.

GULLIVER WINTER INVITATIONAL

When: Saturday, Session Two, 9 a.m.; Session Three, 30 minutes after completion of previous session; Sunday, Session Four, 9:30 a.m., 30 minutes after completion of previous session.

Where: Gulliver Prep School, 6575 SW 88th Street, Miami

Admission: $2 per session, heat sheets $3 per session.
