June 18, 2016—South Florida Aquatic Club boys’ team dominated second day action at the Swim Fort Lauderdale International Classic Saturday at Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Center.

Heading into the third and final day of competition, SOFLO leads the boys’ team standings with 267 points. Host Swim Fort Lauderdale is second with 174.5 and Gulliver Swim Club is third with 139.

Christian Tijero, 10, continued his winning ways in the 9-10 age group competition with three wins.

Tijero won the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:54.02, dropping 2.39 seconds off his previous best of 2:56.41.

Tijero won the 50-meter freestyle in a best time 32.68, dropping 0.81 seconds off his previous best. Tijero also won the 100-meter backstroke in a best time 1:21.28, dropping 2.25 seconds.

Tijero has totaled 52 points over two days in the high point competition.

Teammate Juan Serna won the 13-14 50-meter freestyle in a best time 25.98.

Other top SOFLO boys’ finishers were:

Javier Roman, second, 200-meter individual medley, 2:38.34; second, 50-meter freestyle, 29.92.

Rafael Rodriguez, second, 50-meter freestyle, 26.36.

Ervin Marin, third, 200-meter individual medley, 2:16.62.

Alessandro Pereira, second, 100-meter backstroke, 1:22.98; third, 50-meter freestyle, 34.03.

Ricardo Roche, third, 200-meter backstroke, 2:15.99.

Kelley Heron was SOFLO’s top girls’ finisher, placing second in the 15-and-over 200-meter backstroke in 2:23.41.

Leah Pando had an impressive 10.05-second time drop in the 9-10 200-meter individual medley in 3:06.06 to finish fourth. SOFLO girls’ team is seventh with 83 points.

Because of bad weather, events 56-60 were converted to timed finals. The remainder of the 400-meter freestyle events will be held Sunday afternoon after the 800 and 1500 events.

The three-day Florida Gold Coast meet concludes on Sunday. The meet has attracted most of the top teams including SOFLO with 67 swimmers entered.

Among teams competing are AquaKids Sharks, Gulliver Swim Club, Pine Crest Swimming, North Palm Beach, Boca Raton Swim Team and host Swim Fort Lauderdale.
