June 19, 2016—South Florida Aquatic Club boys’ team took center stage Sunday on the final day of the fifth annual Swim Fort Lauderdale International Classic at Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Center.

Led by talent and depth, SOFLO won the boys’ team title with 431 points, nearly 200 points more than runner-up and host team Swim Fort Lauderdale with 277.5. Gulliver Swim Club was third with 260.

SOFLO girls’ team was sixth with 140 points. Pine Crest Swim Team won the girls’ team title with 357 followed by Gulliver Swim Club with 308.

In a close finish, SOFLO also won the combined team title by three points with 571 points ahead of Gulliver with 568. Only 10 points separated the top three teams.

SOFLO’s top boys finishers were:

Christian Tijero, 10, 100-meter freestyle, first, 1:09.92, best time; 50-meter breaststroke, 47.96, fourth, finished with 73 points for high point award.

Marc Rojas, 22, 100-meter breaststroke, first, 1:04.97, 18 points.

Alessandro Pereira, 9, 50-meter breaststroke, first, 44.65; 100-meter freestyle, second, 1:13.17, 100-meter butterfly, third, 1:23.99, 56 points.

Juan Serna, 14, 100-meter freestyle, second, 56.89, 28 points.

Ricardo Roche, 16, 1500-meter freestyle, second 16:39.82, 33.35 drop, 25 points.

Rafael Rodriguez, 14, 1500-meter freestyle, third 16:53.73; 100-meter freestyle, third, 57.75, 37 points.

Javier Roman, 12, 50-meter breaststroke, third, 38.09, best time, 53 points.

Max Asnis, 16, 200-meter butterfly, third, 2:12.42, 8 points.

Yannai Michael, 12, 50-meter breaststroke, fifth, 38.55, best time, 4 points.

Tomas Pelaez, 15, dropped 40.29 seconds off his previous best in the 1500-meter freestyle to finish ninth in 17:48.58.

Among SOFLO’s top finishers were:

Ksen Golovkina, 26, 100-meter breaststroke, first 1:14.21, 9 points.

Leah Pando, 10, 100-meter freestyle, fourth, 1:18.23, best time; 50-meter breaststroke, sixth, 48.16, 100-meter butterfly, sixth, 1:36.50, 33 points.

Molly Golding, 13, 100-meter breaststroke, 1:20.76, best time, 17 points.

Elise Larin, 14, 100-meter breaststroke, fifth, 1:21.55, 9 points.

Jessica Rodriguez, 17, 100-meter breaststroke, fifth, 1:19.18, 6 points.

SOFLO teenagers Alana Acevedo, 14, and Michelle Marinheiro, 13, had nice time drops for Top 20 finishes in the 800-meter freestyle timed final. Acevedo shaved 11.58 off her previous best to finish in 10:49.66 and Marinheiro dropped 7.44 to finish in 10:14.90.

The meet attracted most of the top teams including SOFLO with 67 swimmers entered. Among teams that competed were are AquaKids Sharks, Gulliver Swim Club, Pine Crest Swimming, North Palm Beach, Boca Raton Swim Team, ACE, Hurricane Aquatics and host Swim Fort Lauderdale.
