Golding Leads SOFLO With Two Best Times On Day Three Of Southern Zone South Sectional Championship

July 9, 2016—Kathleen Golding of South Florida Aquatic Club finished runner-up and swam two best times to highlight action Saturday night at the Speedo Southern Zone South Sectional Championship at Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center.

Golding, 15, a U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier. was second in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:18.41, a 0.26 second drop from her previous best of 218.67.

Golding was also ninth in the 50-meter freestyle in 26.92, breaking 27 seconds for the first time. Her previous best was 27.30, an 0.38 time drop.

The relays were cancelled because of lightning. Most of the 400 freestyle races were held except for the last heat which will be held Sunday morning.

In the morning 400 prelims, SOFLO’s Rafael Rodriguez, 14, swam a best time 4:13.17, dropping 3.52 seconds and Ricardo Roche, 16, swam 4:13.23, dropping 5.78 seconds.

Among teams competing are Bolles, Gator Swim Club, Gulliver Swim Club, Hurricane Aquatics, Sarasota YMCA, Miami Swimming, Westminster Academy, Metro Aquatics, Scarlet (N.J.) Aquatics and Highlander Aquatics.

The stacked field includes Andrea Pinto of Gator Swim Club, Arkady Vyatchanin, swimming unattached; Isabella Paez of Metro Aquatics, who just missed making the Venezuelan Olympic team; Belarus Olympian Pavel Sankovich and South African Olympian Sebastian Rousseau of Gator Swim Club.
