Florida Gold Coast Wins Relay Silver; Paige Lane Top SOFLO Finisher On Day Two Of Southern Zones

Florida Gold Coast had a good showing in the boys’ 400-meter medley relay at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships Wednesday at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C.

The boys’ 11-12 relay of Joshua Zuchowski, Victor Valdes, Matthew Tarafa and Nicolas Gallego finished second in 4:27.49.

Paige Lane was South Florida Aquatic Club’s top finisher, placing 15th in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:07.67.

SOFLO teammate Sebastian Lares was 25th in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:11.09.

The zone championships feature top regional swimmers at the senior and age group levels who qualify for these meets within the four designated zones (Eastern, Central, Southern and Western.)

U.S. OPEN

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Marc Rojas just missed making “C” final Wednesday at the U.S. Open Wednesday in Minneapolis.

Rojas, 22, was 25th in the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:24.09, missing the final by one spot. His splits were 31.53, 35.85, 37.22 and 39.49. His reaction off the block was 0.73.

Three meet records were broken on the second day of competition. National team member Andrew Wilson broke the 200-meter breaststroke record in 2:09.73. Zane Grothe broke the record in the 400-meter freestyle in 3:45.63. Australia men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay set a new meet record in 3:16.87.

SOFLO teammate and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Claire Donahue, 27, competes Thursday in the 100-meter butterfly.

The U.S. Open continues through Saturday.
