Mallory Schleicher Leads SOFLO On Day One Of Gulliver Winter Classic

February 17, 2017—Mallory Schleicher, making her debut in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finished third in the event on the opening day of the Gulliver Winter Classic.

Schleicher, 13, seeded 17th among a field of 18 swimmers, was third in 11:25.78.

Schleicher was also 14th in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:58.82 with a time drop of 2.68. It was the first time she broke the 5-minute barrier. Her previous best was 5:01.50.

Chris Vasquez, 13, was 19th in the boys’ 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:58.48 with a huge time drop of 44.58. It was the first time he swam under 12 minutes in the distance event. His previous best was 12:43.06.

1.Valeria Strohmeier, Gulliver 11:01.52, 2. Anelis Roque, MAC 11:05.80, 3. Mallory Schleicher, SOFLO 11:25.78.

1.Miguel Cancel, Gulliver 4:04.91, 2. Nestor Montero, MAC 4:09.65, 3. Brandon Vives, AC 4:10.92; SOFLO: 18. John Paul Handal 4:43.90, 22. Nicolas Rossi 4:52.66.

1000-yard freestyle:

1.Adrian Aguilar, MAC 9:29.62, 2. Aitor Fungairino, MAC 9:29.86, 3. Andres Vargas, MAC 9:42.65; SOFLO: 19. Chris Vasquez 11:58.48, time drop.


What: Gulliver Winter Classic (SCY)

When: Saturday-Sunday.

Schedule: Friday, Session 1, 4 p.m.; Saturday, Session II, 9 a.m.; Session III, 30 minutes after the previous session; Sunday, Session IV, 9:30 a.m., Session V, 30 minutes after the previous session.

Where: Gulliver Swim Club, 6575 North Kendall Drive, Miami.
