March 19, 2017—-For three days, South Florida Aquatic Club dominated the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympic Short Course Championships at Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

The defending champions took the early lead on opening day and finished Sunday with a record seventh consecutive and eighth overall combined short course team title in the club’s 17-year history.

With depth, talent and outstanding coaching, SOFLO won with 935 points, nearly 300 points ahead of runner-up Gulliver Swim Club (672) and East Coast Aquatic Club (650) among a field of 36 teams.

“Some people might think we take this for granted but we don’t,” SOFLO coach Chris Anderson said.

“It’s not only the excitement of the kids winning a team championship but the coaches being so involved and as competitive as our kids.”

Anderson praised the work of Rose Lockie, Luis Soler and Lynnette Hundell leading the club’s age group program known for its grass roots philosophy and developing homegrown swimmers at an early age.

“We are tough to beat when it comes to championship meets like this,” Anderson said. “It really mattered to the coaches. They put their coaching pride on the line. You could tell they wanted it as much as the kids. I am proud of our staff.

“It took us seven years to develop a winning culture and now that we have that winning culture we are breeding more and more success,” Anderson said. “You can see everybody played a part—coaches, Booster Club, parents and Gold Coast that has these All-Star events to motivate and enable these kids to achieve.”

Alessandro Pereira tied for high point honors in the 10-and-unders with 66 points. Sebastian Lares was third in the 11-12s with 64 points. Paige Lane was fifth in the 13-14s with 50 points.
