SOFLO Swimmers Compete At International, Local Meets

April 6, 2017—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers will be competing internationally and locally this weekend.

SOFLO’s Marc Rojas, 23, and Alessandro Pereira, 10, will compete in the Campeonato FEDONA 2017/III DR International Swim Open in Santo Domingo.

Rojas represented the Dominican Republic internationally when he made his international debut at the FINA Short Course World Championships in Canada, one of the sport’s biggest meets.

Rojas broke two national records with best times in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events. He also won his 200-meter breaststroke heat.

This weekend Rojas is entered in the 50, 100 and 200-meter breaststroke events.

Pereira is entered in five events: 50-meter backstroke, 200-meter individual medley, 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke and 200-meter freestyle.

On the local scene, thirteen SOFLO swimmers will compete in the 8-and-Under Sunrise Sizzler at the Sunrise Civic Center.

The fun meet features 25-yard races in all four strokes and 100-yard freestyle relay. The events are the 6-and-under and 7-8 25-yard butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle races and 8-and-under 100-yard medley relay.

The swimmers entered are: Clara Bland, 7; Samira Borges, 8; Connor Jimenez, 7; Mason Jimenez, 8; Matthew Jimenez, 8; Brandon Lozano, 7; Sofia Lugo, 8; Stefano Mazzi, 8; Ella Michael, 7; Joseph-Blake Natino, 8; Martin Petkov, 8; Aryav Thakur, 8; and Juan Vallmitjana, 8.
