April 8, 2017—Marc Rojas of South Florida Aquatic Club won his opening event Friday at the Campeonatos FEDONA 2017/III DR International Swim Open in Santo Domingo.

Rojas, 23, won the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:20.86. His splits were 31.64, 35.98, 36.82 and 36.42.

Rojas represents the Dominican Republic internationally and is a national record holder in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events. Rojas is getting in some international racing while preparing for the July 14-30 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Rojas is entered in two other events this weekend in his native country. He will also swim the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke events.

SOFLO teammate Alessandro Pereira, 10, will begin competing on Saturday.

Pereira is entered in five events: 50-meter backstroke, 200-meter individual medley, 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke and 200-meter freestyle.

SUNRISE SIZZLER

Joseph-Blake Natino, 8, of South Florida Aquatic Club was the boys team’s top finisher at the Sunrise 8-and-Under Sizzler Friday at the Sunrise Civic Center.

Natino was second in the 25-yard breaststroke in 22.68 followed by teammate Juan Vallmitjana, 8, third in 22.97 with a time drop of 0.28 seconds.

Natino was also fifth in the 25-yard butterfly in 19.97, the first time he cracked the 20-second barrier. He also dropped 0.98 seconds from 20.95 to 19.97. He was tenth in the 25-yard freestyle in 17.84 with another time drop of 0.86 seconds and 13th in the 25-yard backstroke

in 22.88.

SOFLO boys also won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:10.67 finishing ahead of Sunrise and Coral Springs Swim Club. SOFLO also showed its depth with its “B” team placing fourth in 1:22.01.

The SOFLO girls team was led by Sofia Lugo, 8, in the girls sprint events. Lugo was eighth in the 25-yard breaststroke in 25.84, tenth in the 25-yard butterfly in 20.91; 11th in the 25-yard backstroke in 22.71 and 13th in the 25-yard freestyle in 19.62. SOFLO girls relay was fourth.

SOFLO had 13 swimmers entered in the fun but chilly meet.
