Florida Gold Coast Boys All-Stars Defend Title; SOFLO Swimmers Make Huge Impact

FORT PIERCE, April 5, 2017—Florida Gold Coast All-Star boys’ team defended its title Sunday at the Florida Swimming vs. FGC All-Star Dual Meet at Indian River State College.

In an exciting finish, Florida Gold Coast edged Florida Swimming, 319-217. FGC had a 10-point lead going into the final day.

Florida Swimming won the combined team title, 736-584, and women’s team title, 389-247.

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Molly Golding, 13, won the 13-14 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.26 with a time drop of 1.28 seconds. She finished with 11 points.

SOFLO teammate Sebastian Lares, 12, was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.02. Lares was also fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.53. He finished with 18 points.

Alessandro Pereira, 10, was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.15 with a time drop and second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 35.39 with a time drop. He finished with 27 points.

SOFLO had 21 swimmers compete in the spirited two-day meet.

The 25-yard short course meet, hosted by Indian River Aquatics, is for 10-and-under, 11-12, 13-and 14. All events were timed finals.

SOFLO Swimmers Play Key Role In Florida Gold Coast Leading Boys Team Race

FORT PIERCE, April 1, 2017—Florida Gold Coast All-Star boys’ team leads after two sessions of competition on opening day of the Florida Swimming vs. Florida Gold Coast All-Star Dual Meet Saturday at Indian River State College.

And South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers are playing a big role in the team’s success.

Florida Gold Coast boys lead Florida Swimming, 233-223.

Alessandro Pereira and Sebastian Lares were among top finishers.

Pereira won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:07.97; second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.99, 100-yard butterfly in 1:06.29 and 200-yard individual medley in 2:22.49.

Pereira also led off and SOFLO teammate Javier Colmenares swam third leg for the third place 200-yard freestyle relay that finished third in 1:56.70.

Lares was second in the 50-yard backstroke in 26.98 and second in the 100-yard individual medley in 59.53 and second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.41. Lares was also fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.19. Lares was a member of the second place 200-yard medley relay.

Javier Colmenares was third in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:10.59.

In the girls competition, Florida Swimming leads 280-176.

Molly Golding and Paige Lane were SOFLO’s top finishers for Florida Gold Coast.

Golding was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.00.

Lane was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.94; fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.11 and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.06. Lane swam third leg for the second place 200-yard medley relay and second place 200-yard freestyle relay.

Florida Swimming also leads the combined team standings, 504-409.

SOFLO has 21 swimmers competing in the meet.

The 25-yard short course meet, hosted by Indian River Aquatics, is for 10-and-under, 11-12, 13-and 14. All events are timed finals.

SOFLO Qualifies Record 25 Swimmers For All-Star Meet That Begins Saturday

FORT PIERCE, March 31, 2017—The Florida Gold Coast All-Stars, with a big, strong contingent from South Florida Aquatic Club, will take on Florida Swimming at this weekend’s Florida Swimming vs. Florida Gold Coast All-Star Dual Meet at Indian River State College.

In last year’s meet, FGC won the boys team title, 329.5-306.5 with some outstanding swims from SOFLO swimmers.

Florida Swimming is defending champion in the combined (758.5-561.5) and girls (410-226) competition.

SOFLO had 25 swimmers qualify and will have 21 participate. Last year SOFLO had 15 qualify.

Four of the qualifiers—Lance Lesage, Michael Arias, Joseph Lee and Nicolas Rossi are not competing. The previous highest amount to qualify was 24 in 2010 when the Comets and Coral Springs Swim Club were merged.

SOFLO swimmers that will compete are: Natalia Sibug, Mariann Catalasan, Jonathan Lozano, Javier Colmenares, Alessandro Pereira, Sebastian Lares, Zackary Harris, Enrique Rodriguez, Diego Dulieu, Alejandro Mateus, Yannai Michael, Alex Golding, Kayla Cunningham, Molly Golding, Michelle Marinheiro, Paige Lane, Katrina Del Vecchio, Sophia Rupert, Daniela Curbelo, Sarah Acevedo and Javier Roman.

Alejandro Mateus is defending champion in the 50-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly.

Lares, Pereira and Molly Golding were also top finishers last year.

Friday was a travel day and team work out for Florida Gold Coast swimmers.

The swimmers are already showing their team spirit. One swimmer got a hair cut with the initials FGC shaved into the back of his head. Another swimmer has a t-shirt that reads, “I’m So Good, Your Mom Cheers For Me!”

SOFLO Among Top Teams At FGC Open Spring Sprint Swim Meet

MIAMI, March 31, 2017—South Florida Aquatic Club will compete all day in the Florida Gold Coast Open Spring Sprint Swim Meet Saturday at Miami-Dade College North campus pool.

The one-day meet is hosted by North Miami Swim Team and City of North Miami.

SOFLO is among 11 teams competing in the sprint meet that features events no longer than 200 yards for the developmental swimmers.

The teams are Devilrays Swim Club, Flying Fish Swim Club, Hurricane Aquatics, Metro Aquatics, Miami Beach Seahawks, Miami Country Day Aquatics, Miami Shores Aquatics, North Miami Swim Team, Pine Crest Swimming and Swim Gym.

SOFLO has 35 swimmers competing in 163 individual events.
