FINA WORLD CUP SERIES
SOFLO’s four-time Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson will test the international waters after a long layoff.
Atkinson, 28, will compete Wednesday in the FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup Series opener in Moscow.
After a disappointing 2016 Rio Olympics where she failed to medal, Atkinson took three months off to travel and make appearances. She returned to training three months ago and since then broke two Jamaican national records.
At Southern Zone Sectionals, Atkinson broke the 100-meter butterfly record in 59.94 and became the first Jamaican to go under 1 minute.
Then at the recent Senior Championships she set the 100-meter freestyle record in 55.35, another first for a Jamaican to go sub-56 seconds.
