August 10, 2017–Jennifer Martin of South Florida Aquatic Club continued her winning and record-breaking ways Thursday at the 2017 World Police & Fire Games in Los Angeles.

The City of Pembroke Pines police sergeant won gold medals in the 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter medley relay that also broke a world record in 2:14 with teammates Lavina Brebu, 36, Ting-Yun Cheng, 32, and Richa Mishra, 33, at Exposition Park Swim Stadium.

It was the same four 30-39 multi-national relay members from Romania, India, Taiwan and U.S. that shattered the 20-year-old world record in the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:59.84. The previous world record was 2:02.30 set in 1997.

Martin won the 50-meter backstroke in 34.12. She was also a member of the fourth place 209 mixed freestyle relay that finished behind stacked teams from Russia, Hong Kong and China.

Martin now has five gold medals, one silver medal and three world records after three days of open water and pool swimming.

On Wednesday, Martin won the 100-meter breaststroke in a world record 1:24.43. The previous record was 1:24.74 set in 2013. She also won a gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly in 31.32, just missing the world record of in 30.83.

In Sunday’s 2-mile open water pier-to-pier swim, Martin was second in her division taking a silver medal in 1:08.44.

The competition features 8,000 police officers and firefighters from 70 countries competing in 65 different sports. The 11-day biennial Olympics-style competition is for finely-tuned active and retired police officers and firefighters.
