Cypress Bay Lightning Depth, Talent Tops McArthur

By Sharon Robb

September 1, 2017—Defending boys and girls District 10-4A and Region 4-4A champion Cypress Bay opened the season with a lopsided victory over McArthur Wednesday at the Weston YMCA.

Cypress Bay, buoyed by depth and talent, didn’t waste any time taking up where it left off last season. The girls won 124-27 and the boys won 134-16.

Head coach John Spire got the chance to get a look at both his returnees and several talented newcomers including freshman Paige Lane, a member of all three winning relays.

Sophomore Isabella Nigro was a double winner for Cypress Bay. Nigro won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.54 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.23.

The girls won six individual events and swept all three relays.

The boys were just as impressive, winning eight individual events with eight different swimmers and sweeping all three relays.

Cypress Bay’s next home meet is Sept. 6 against West Broward and Western at the Weston YMCA.
