St. Thomas Aquinas Finishes In Top 10 At Lake Brantley Patriot Invitational; Raiders Juan Zapata Wins Butterfly

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, September 15, 2018—St. Thomas Aquinas, the only Broward team in the field, finished among the Top 10 boys and girls teams in the Lake Brantley Patriot Invitational Saturday night at Lake Brantley Aquatic Center.

The Raiders girls finished tied for eighth place with Lake Nona and Timber Creek with 94 points. Tampa Plant won the girls team title with 383.

The Raiders boys finished ninth with 89 points. Oviedo won the team title with 369 points, 65 points ahead of Seminole with 304.

The Raiders were led by individual winner Juan Zapata winning the 100-yard butterfly in 51.65. Zapata was the fourth fastet qualifier in morning prelims. Zapata was also third in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.71. He was fifth fastest in prelims. Zapata finished with 36 points.

The girls top finisher was Gina Fimiano, fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

After morning prelims, St. Thomas’ Kalvin Hernandez lost a swim-off for a finals spot with Kaleb Byrd of Winter Park in the 50-yard freestyle, 22.53-24.11. He finished 15th overall in 23.01.
