The meet, which attracted eight teams, honored Michael Fish, who was killed by a drunk driver while he was on his morning bike ride in 2011.

Fish played a key role in the growth of the YMCA of South Florida Barracudas swim team. He was a founding member of its Parent Advisory Committee. He was the club’s head official for USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming meets. He mentored parents who wanted to become swim officials. The meet is held annually in September as a tribute to Fish to continue his legacy.

Part of the money raised at the meet is used for two scholarships to assist needy swimmers from the YSF Barracudas swim team and MADD organization to contribute with the MADD For Fish Team as part of the MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale campaign. His wife Kathy is head meet referee for the meet.
