South Florida Aquatic Club Hosts Annual TYR SOFLO Open This Weekend

PEMBROKE PINES, January 24, 2019–Host South Florida Aquatic Club heads the field for the TYR SOFLO Open that gets under way Friday at Academic Village Pool.

The three-day timed final meet features a large field including 156 swimmers (78 girls and 78 boys) competing in 1,028 individual events and eight relays representing SOFLO.

Among SOFLO’s top seeds are:

Isabelle Wilson, 12, 200 freestyle, 2:10.04; 500 freestyle 5:30.58.

Kathleen Golding, 18, 100 individual medley, 56.36; 400 individual medley, 4:12.46; 200 backstroke, 2:04.31; 50 butterfly 24.58.

Rafael Rodriguez, 17, 100-yard individual medley, 53.15; 400 individual medley 4:01.32; 500 freestyle, 4:35.60; 200 butterfly, 1:50.50; 100 freestyle, 47.90.

Javier Colmenares, 12, 200 individual medley, 2:15.66; 200 breaststroke, 2:28.03; 50 breaststroke 31.99; 100 breaststroke, 1:08.22; 100 individual medley 1:02.79.

Marc Rojas, 24, 200 breaststroke, 2:00.66; 50 breaststroke, 25.94.

Molly Golding, 15, 200 breaststroke, 2:21.87.

Mary Smutny, 18, 100 backstroke, 55.90; 100 butterfly, 53.81; 200 individual medley 2:02.82; 500 freestyle 4:42.80; 200 freestyle 1:45.36; 200 butterfly 1:56.58; 100 freestyle 49.48.

Lance Lesage, 16, 100 backstroke, 52.06; 200 backstroke 1:51.35.

Gaby Banks, 16, 50 freestyle, 23.85.

What looks to be one of the highlight races of the meet is the 50 breaststroke. It will be a trip down memory lane with top two seeds Marc Rojas, 24, of SOFLO going up against Harvey Beckwith, 41, of Coral Springs Swim Club. Beckwith is also seeded first in the 100 breaststroke and Rojas is seeded first in the 200 breaststroke.

Among Florida Gold Coast teams competing are Blue Marlins of Hialeah, Metro Aquatics, Alper Swim Club, Coral Springs Swim Club, Hialeah, YMCA of South Florida, Heritage Aquatics, Hurricane Swimming, City of Miami, North Miami Swim Team, Plantation Swim Team, Midtown Weston and TSA Swimming.

Schedule: Friday, 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. and approximately one hour after first session ends; Sunday, 8:30 a.m. and approximately one hour after first session ends.
