SOFLO Swimmers Compete This Weekend In Coral Springs Open Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, April 25, 2019—South Florida Aquatic Club will have nearly 100 swimmers competing in this weekend’s Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

The long course meters meet will be timed finals.

SOFLO Sharks will have 97 swimmers (54 boys and 43 girls) racing in 472 individual events over three days.

Among SOFLO swimmers competing are Kaitlyn Barrios, 13; Mariann Catalasan, 13; Mark Andre DeGracia, 15; Elise Dinehart, 10; Fiorella Di Salvo, 11; Logan Gonzalez, 14; Alejandro Mateus, 13; Leonardo Mateus, 17; Alessio Mazzi, 12; Leah Pando, 13; Mariana Pinto, 11; Christian Tijero, 13; Juan Vallmitjana, 10; and Sarah Vasquez, 11.

SOFLO’s Leonardo Mateus is seeded first in the 400-meter individual medley in 4:49.40 and 200-meter backstroke in 2:16.09.

In addition to SOFLO, some of the Florida Gold Coast teams in the field are Blue Marlins, City of Miami Parks, East Coast, Heritage Aquatics, Hialeah, Midtown Weston, St. Andrew’s Swimming and host Coral Springs Swim Club.

Among international teams competing are Bulado Swim Club of Curacao and Orca Swim Club, also of Curacao. Shawn Neely, 16, leads Orca and is among top seeds in the boys breaststroke events and 50 freestyle.

The 400-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley events will open the meet on Friday.


What: Coral Springs Open Invitational.

When: Friday, 5 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m. timed finals.

Where: Coral Springs Aquatic Center, Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions, 12441 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs.

How To Get There: If taking 1-95, take Copans Road exit and go west approx. 10 miles. Copans turns into Royal Palm Blvd., after crossing 441. The Aquatic Complex will be on the right hand side ½ mile after crossing Coral Ridge Drive. If taking Sawgrass Expressway, exit on Sample Road East.Continue East on Sample to first light, Coral Ridge Drive. Turn Right onto Coral Ridge, continue South to Royal Palm Blvd. Turn right onto Royal Palm. The Aquatic Complex will be on the right hand side (1/2 Mile).
