SOFLO Swimmers End On Good Note On Final Day Of Coral Springs Open Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, April 28, 2019—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers ended with some more good racing and time drops Sunday at the Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

Leonardo Mateus, 17, was top SOFLO finisher with a second place in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:25.07. During the meet he was also 12th in the 200-meter freestyle and 21st in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Also in the 200-meter backstroke, Nate Garrick, 14, was fifth in a best time 2:35.81, dropping 2.18, and Adrian Hernandez, 13, was sixth in a best time, 2:36.43, dropping a whopping 15.26.

Also in the 200-meter backstroke, Fiorella Di Salvo, 11, was ninth in a best time 32.50, dropping 1.42.

Alejandro Mateus, 13, was eighth in the 100-meter butterfly in a best time 1:04.69, dropping 1.70.

Mariann Catalasan, 13, was top girls finisher placing seventh in the 200-meter backstroke in a best time 2:41.09. She dropped 6.83 seconds off her previous best.

Mariana Pinto was ninth in the 200-meter freestyle in a best time 2:22.47, dropping 6.51 seconds.

Alana Deo, 15, was tenth in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:25.54.

SOFLO had 97 swimmers (54 boys and 43 girls) compete in 472 individual events over three days.

In addition to SOFLO, some of the Florida Gold Coast teams that were in the field were Blue Marlins, City of Miami Parks, East Coast, Heritage Aquatics, Hialeah, Midtown Weston, St. Andrew’s Swimming and host Coral Springs Swim Club.

Among international teams that competed were Bulado Swim Club of Curacao and Orca Swim Club, also of Curacao. Shawn Neely, 16, leads Orca and is among top seeds in the boys breaststroke events and 50 freestyle.
