Olympian Vien Nguyen Heads SOFLO At XXI FLA International Cup

PLANTATION, June 26, 2019—Two-time Vietnam Olympian and national record holder Vien Nguyen heads South Florida Aquatic Club’s eight-swimmer contingent at the XXI FLA International Cup at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Nguyen, 22, will compete in four events: 400-meter individual medley, 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter backstroke and mixed 100 freestyle. She is the top seed in the 400 IM in 4:38.66 on Thursday.

Nguyen will be joined by five boys and two girls: Marco Cabrera Duarte, 18, Lance Lesage, 16, Jacqueline Lugo, 17, Garrett Oliver, 16, Juan Pablo Pineda, 17, Lucy Smutny, 16 and Robert Wilson, 16.

SOFLO will compete for two days during the four-day meet. The meet is Thursday through Sunday.

All sessions are timed finals. The meet features 22 Florida Gold Coast, Caribbean and out-of-state teams, down from 31 last year.

SOFLO Ready To Race At BRST 15&Under Endless Summer Invite This Weekend

BOCA RATON, June 26, 2019–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers seeking to add a few more qualifying cut times or get in a little more quality racing will get the chance this weekend at the Boca Raton Swim Team 15-&-under Endless Summer Invite.

SOFLO has the largest team entered with 81 swimmers (41 boys and 40 girls) for the three-day meet.

After a year’s hiatus and one-day format, the meet, being held to kick off summer instead of ending it like past years, will be held Friday through Sunday at the Boca Raton High School Aquatic Center.

The meet will serve as a fine tuning meet for upcoming tournaments including the July 18-21 FGC 14&Under Junior Olympics in Stuart.

In addition to SOFLO, some of the other FGC clubs competing are Pine Crest Swimming, FAST, North Palm Beach, Coral Springs Swim Club, Lake Lytal Lightning and Florida Keys.

SOFLO’s Dinehart Sisters End On Good Note; Sarasota YMCA Sharks Sweep Team Titles At Shark Open

SARASOTA, June 23, 2019—Olivia and Elena Dinehart led South Florida Aquatic Club on the fourth and final day of the Sarasota Shark Open Sunday at Selby Aquatic Center.

Olivia Dinehart, 14, was second in the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:42.91 with a time drop of 2.51 and fourth in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:01.41 with a time drop of 0.90. She finished with 43 points in high point.

Elena Dinehart, 14, was third in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:31.51 with a time drop of 3.84. She finished with 29 points.

LeeAnn Ranalli, 16, was fourth in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:05.38 with a time drop of 0.60.

Gabriela Avila, 12, was sixth in the 50-meter breaststroke in 44.75.

Sophia Avila, 10, was eighth in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:36.77.

Paige Lane, 16, was tenth in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:31.72 with a time drop of 6.22 from 2:37.94.

Felix Gonzalez, 12, was SOFLO’s top boys’ finisher in the 50-meter breaststroke in 45.71 with a time drop of 2.30.

Miguel Sierra, 16, was also among SOFLO’s top boys finishers placing seventh in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:13.77 with a time drop of 2.81 and and seventh in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:05.93.

Host Sarasota YMCA Sharks, early leaders since Day One, swept all three team titles with 1,157 points in combined, 442 in boys and 715 in girls team standings. The Sharks were the only team to crack the 1,000-point barrier.

With only 11 swimmers, SOFLO was eighth in combined with 87 points and seventh in the girls team standings with 77 points.

The meet format was prelims and finals for 11-12, 13-14 and 15-and-over and timed finals for 10-and-unders and 11-and-over who did not have qualifying times.

Elena, Olivia Dinehart Lead SOFLO On Day Three Of Shark Open In Sarasota

SARASOTA, June 22, 2019—Sisters Elena and Olivia Dinehart were top finishers for South Florida Aquatic Club on Day Three of the Sarasota Shark Open Saturday at Selby Aquatic Center.

The sisters combined for five best times in six individual events.

Olivia Dinehart, 14, was third in the 400-meter individual medley in 5:17.53; fifth in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:13.00 with a time drop of 3.45; and tenth in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:10.83 with a time drop of 1:07. She has 31 points in high point and has three events left.

Elena Dinehart, 14, was second in the 200-meter backstroke, 2:25.84 with a time drop of 2.96; third in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:07.96 with a time drop of 2.20, breaking 1:10 for the first time; and ninth in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:14.57 with a time drop of 4.12. She has 14 points in high point and three events remaining.

Gabriela Avila, 12, was second in the 50-meter backstroke in 38.72 with a time drop of 0.57.

LeeAnn Ranalli, 16, was fifth in the mixed 400-meter individual medley in 6:08.71. She has three events left.

SOFLO’s top boys’ finisher was Miguel Sierra, seventh in the 100-meter butterfly in a best time 59.52 with a time drop of 0.61 and second time he cracked 1 minute. He swam 59.67 in prelims. He has three events left to swim.

Host Sarasota YMCA Sharks continue to lead the combined, men’s and women’s team totals and have all but clinched all three team titles after three days of competition. With only 10 swimmers, SOFLO is eighth among 16 teams in the combined standings. SOFLO girls are sixth with 49.

Prelims and finals continue at 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the fourth and final day of the meet.

The meet format is prelims and finals for 11-12, 13-14 and 15-and-over and timed finals for 10-and-unders and 11-and-over who do not have qualifying times.

SOFLO’s Olivia Dinehart Has Three Top 4 Finishes At Shark Open; Acevedo Takes Women’s Open Water Title; Vasquez Swims Best Time

SARASOTA, June 21, 2019—Olivia Dinehart was South Florida Aquatic Club’s top finisher on Day Two of the Sarasota Shark Open Friday at Selby Aquatic Center.

Dinehart, 14, had three Top 4 finishes in the 13-14 age group races and three best times.

Dinehart was second in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:16.87 with a time drop of 0.07.

Dinehart also had two fourth places. She was fourth in the 200-meter individual medley, 2:27.42, with a time drop of 2.11. Elena Dinehart, 14, was ninth in the same event in 2:30.86 with an impressive time drop of 6.92

She was also fourth in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:35.65 with a time drop of 1.52. Dinehart had 21 points in high point.

LeeAnn Ranalli, 16, was second in the 11-and-over 50-meter freestyle in 29.83, with a time drop of 0.94

SOFLO’s top boys’ finisher was Felix Gonzalez, 12, swimming unattached. He was third, 50-meter butterfly, 37.26, time drop of 0.74. He also had a time drop in the 50-meter freestyle in 32.26 (0.63 drop).

Host Sarasota YMCA Sharks are running away with the meet, leading the combined, men’s and women’s team totals after two days of competition.

Prelims and finals continue at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The meet format is prelims and finals for 11-12, 13-14 and 15-and-over and timed finals for 10-and-unders and 11-and-over who do not have qualifying times.

ACEVEDO WINS WOMEN’S TITLE

SOFLO’s Sarah Acevedo won the women’s title and finished second overall in the Flowers 3K Sea Swim off Seven Mile Beach in the Cayman Islands. Acevedo finished in 42:09.88. She outsprinted Canadian Jorja Shemilt who finished second in 42:16.58 in the women’s field. Adam Dawkins won the overall title in 40:29.27.

VASQUEZ SWIMS BEST TIME

SOFLO’s Chris Vasquez, 15, competed in two events Friday morning at the Swim Fort Lauderdale International Classic at Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Center. Vasquez finished 34th in the 100-meter butterfly in a best time 1:07.47, dropping 0.04 seconds off his previous best of 1:07.51. He was also 37th in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:14.67. He has five events left to swim this weekend.

SOFLO’s Olivia Dinehart, Elena Dinehart, Dominic Bono Swim On Day One Of Shark Open Invitational

SARASOTA, June 20, 2019—Three South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers raced in Thursday’s 800-meter freestyle timed final on opening day of the Sarasota Shark Open Invitational at Selby Aquatic Center.

Olivia Dinehart, 14, was SOFLO’s top finisher placing fifth in the 13-14 800-meter freestyle in 9:43.76. Elena Dinehart, 14, was eighth in 10:05.35.

Dominic Bono, 15, was 19th in the open 800-meter freestyle in a best time 9:04.70. He shaved 0.19 off his previous best. He has nine events left to swim.

The remaining SOFLO swimmers will begin competing Friday against North Florida and Georgia teams including the host Sarasota YMCA Sharks which already have commanding leads in all three team categories. SOFLO and TSA are the only Florida Gold Coast teams entered.

SOFLO’s swimmers (nine girls, three boys) entered in 96 individual events are: Gabriela Avila, 12; Sophia Avila, 10; Dominic Bono, 15; Elena Dinehart, 14; Elise Dinehart, 11; Olivia Dinehart, 14; Genesis Escobar, 11; Felix Gonzalez, 12; Daglia Hirsh, 12; Paige Lane, 16; LeeAnn Ranalli, 16; and Miguel Sierra, 16.

Prelims and finals are 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The meet format is prelims and finals for 11-12, 13-14 and 15-and-over and timed finals for 10-and-unders and 11-and-over who do not have qualifying times.

SOFLO Headed To Sarasota For Shark Open Invitational

SARASOTA, June 19, 2019—South Florida Aquatic Club will compete in the Sarasota Shark Open Invitational that gets underway Thursday at Selby Aquatic Center.

Twelve SOFLO swimmers will compete against several North Florida and Georgia teams including the host Sarasota YMCA Sharks which dominate the top seeds. SOFLO and TSA are the only Florida Gold Coast teams entered.
