SOFLO Swimmers Look Impressive In Session Two Of Last Chance Meet

PEMBROKE PINES, November 21, 2020–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers continued their success in the second session of the Last Chance Age Group Meet Saturday at Academic Village.

It was the 12-and-under swimmers turn to impress with dropped times and qualifying cut times.

In addition to competing against teammates, SOFLO swimmers got the chance to compete against some talented Midtown Weston Aquatics swimmers for the first time this COVID-19 marred season.

The day-long meet for all ages served as a last chance for swimmers to make qualifying cut times for the Dec. 10-13 30th annual Speedo Winter Championships at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO girls won eight of nine individual 10-and-under events. Midtown Weston Aquatics won one individual event and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Jemma Baldwin was a triple winner in the sprints, all with lifetime-bests. Baldwin won the 50-yard butterfly in 33.90, 50-yard backstroke in 37.50 and 100-yard freestyle in 1:08.51. She also had a best time in the 50-yard breaststroke in 43.75.

Olivia Wilson and Gianna Martin were double winners for SOFLO’s 10-and-unders.

Wilson, 10, won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:31.78 and 200-yard individual medley in a best time 2:50.49, dropping 12.47 off her previous best. She also had two seconds. She totaled 42 points.

Martin, 9, won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:25.03 and 50-yard breaststroke in 39.20, both best times. She also had a best time in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:52.21, a 4.80 drop. Martin finished with 33 points.

Elise Dinehart, 12, was the lone 11-12 individual winner for SOFLO with a best time 2:29.28 in the 200-yard individual medley. She also had two seconds and two fifth places and finished with 33 points.

Midtown Weston Aquatics won the 200-yard freestyle relay and seven individual events including four by Maria Paez.

SOFLO boys won eight individual 10-and-under events and 200-yard medley relay.

Ethan Hall, 10, won four events including the 50-yard butterfly (33.84), 100-yard backstroke (1:14.29), 50-yard backstroke (35.35) and 100-yard freestyle (1:05.13), all with lifetime-bests and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay. He totaled 48 points.

Noah Mejias, 9, was a triple winner in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:31.09, 100-yard butterfly in 1:14.31 and 200-yard individual medley in 2:47.89, all best times. He also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:09.13, another best time. He finished with 45 points.

The third and final session at 4 p.m. featured developmental swimmers.
