SOFLO Swimmers Off To Good Start On Day One Of FGC SCY BB Silvers Championship South

PEMBROKE PINES, February 26, 2021—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers had twelve top four finishes on opening day of the Florida Gold Coast Short Course Yards BB Silvers Championship South Friday at Academic Village Pool.

The girls had eight top four finishes including second places by Alexandra Strong, Mariann Catalasan and Sofia Osorio.

Strong, 12, was second in the 11-12 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:56.19, dropping 4.35 seconds off her best time.

Catalasan, 14, was second in the 13-14 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.80.

Osorio, 16, was second in the 400-yard individual medley in a best time 5:00.79, dropping 12.35 seconds.

The boys had four top four finishes including second places by Noah Mejias and Oleksii Viazmetinov.

Mejias, 10, was second in the 7-10 500-yard freestyle in a best time 6:31.68, dropping an impressive 20.50.

Viazmetinov, 11, was second in the 11-12 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:45.82, dropping 14.06.

The three-day meet continues Saturday and Sunday with boys and girls morning prelims and finals at 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The 1,650-yard freestyle is Sunday at 3:15 p.m. between sessions.

Host SOFLO has the largest team entered with 105 swimmers (55 boys and 50 girls) in 426 individual events.

Meet organizers are observing all COVID-19 safety protocols and social distancing. Athletes are required to wear masks. No spectators are allowed at the meet.

Only coaches, athletes, officials and volunteers are allowed to attend. The meet is being live streamed on SOFLO’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
