STUART, November 12, 2021—Maybe it’s something in the water in Sarasota.

Sarasota Riverview, fourth last year, and 3A boys state champion Sarasota High School, swept the FHSAA Class 4A Swimming and Diving Championships Friday at Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center.

Sarasota Riverview won the girls’ team title with 275 points ahead of Winter Park with 256.5 and Oviedo with 252. Jupiter, led by state champion Heidi Smithwick, was the top Palm Beach team placing sixth with 132.5 points. Cypress Bay was the top Broward team, 16th with 37 points.

Sarasota High School, which moved up to Class 4A this year, won the boys team title with 211 followed by Venice with 173, just ahead of Oviedo with 172.5. Boca Raton, led by a winning relay, was the top Palm Beach team in eighth place with 96 followed by top Broward team Taravella, ninth with 90 points.

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Juan Mora, a senior at Doral Academy, turned out to be the lone state champion from Miami-Dade and Broward.

Mora won the 100-yard breaststroke in 54.71. He went a best time 54.65 in prelims to earn the top seed and automatic All-American time. He was also fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in a best time 49.48. It was the first time he dipped under 50 seconds.

For Mora, it was a successful finish to a perfect high school season. He was a two-time district and two-time region champion and now state champion during the post-season. Mora scored 34 of Doral Academy’s 52 points.
