NORTH MIAMI, June 11, 2022—After a week’s delay because of bad weather, South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers got the chance to race and improve times during the North Miami Swim Team June Open Invite Saturday at Miami-Dade North College.
Ellie Phan, 7, led SOFLO with three wins in the 25-yard backstroke 19.87, 3.14 time drop; 25-yard butterfly, 19.60, 0.99 time drop; and 25-yard freestyle, 17.27, time drop 1.57. She was also second in 25-yard breaststroke, 24.13, time drop 1.25.
Jackson Puntervold, 10, won the 50-yard backstroke in a best time 42.48 with a time drop of 5.41.
Haley Garcia, 14, won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:54.32, also a best time with a time drop of 1.77.
There were also several impressive time drops:
Molly Barber, 7, 25-yard backstroke, 29.14, 6.50 drop.
Savanna Alonso, 9, 50-yard butterfly, 46.77, 8.74 drop.
Eva Ortiz, 10, 50-yard freestyle, 36.93, 6.16 drop.
Mariana Wotfe, 12, 50-yard freestyle, 32.99, 10.13 drop.
Kourtney Eargle, 11, 50-yard freestyle 36.07, 4.00 drop.
Justin Campos, 14, 200-yard freestyle 2:18.72, 13.97 drop.
Sean Tee, 9, 50-yard butterfly, 48.23, drop 8.72.
Leonardo Zuluaga, 9, 200-yard individual medley 3:17.04, 8.20 drop.
SOFLO had 42 swimmers (24 girls and 18 boys) compete in 165 individual events in the 10-team meet.
Among the Florida Gold Coast teams that competed were Alper J Swim Club, Atlantis, Hammerhead Aquatics, Heritage Aquatics, Eagle Aquatics, SwimRight MarJCC Swim Team, Atlantis Swim Club, Swim Gym Swim Team, Southern Wahoos Aquatic Team, Metro Aquatics and host North Miami Swim Team.
