South Florida Heat Sweeps Team Titles At Florida Christian Schools Championship; SOFLO’s Izzy Wilson Finishes Top Three

FORT LAUDERDALE, September 10, 2022—South Florida Heat dominated the annual Florida Christian Schools Championship Saturday at host Westminster Academy.

South Florida Heat swept the team titles, winning the girls’ team title with 529 points and boys’ team title with 450 points. Carrollton was girls’ runner-up with 317 points and Jupiter Christian was boys’ runner-up with 270 points.

South Florida Home Education Athletic Team (HEAT), established in 2004, is a Christian-based FHSAA accredited, not-for-profit organization working with home schooling families.

South Florida Aquatic Club’s Izzy Wilson had two top three finishes. She was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.12 and third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.70.

Samantha Schoenborn of South Florida Heat and Alexandra Stern of St. Edwards were double winners.

Schoenborn won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.24 and 100-yard backstroke in 59.88.

Stern won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.50 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.73.

South Florida Heat won all six girls and boys relays.

Finn Winkler of South Florida Heat was the only boys’ double winner. He won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.53 and 100-yard backstroke in 54.16.

Nikita Efimov of South Florida Heat won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.33.

Jeffrey Xiong, Zoe Miralles Leads SOFLO In Session One Of Piranhas September Open

POMPANO BEACH, September 10, 2022—Jeffrey Xiong, Zoe Miralles and their South Florida Aquatic Club teammates got in some good racing in the opening session of the Piranhas September Open Saturday at Pompano Beach Aquatic Center.

Jeffrey Xiong, 10, was top boys’ finisher placing second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 48.72. He was also 12th in the 50-yard freestyle in 39.13.

Miralles, 10, was top girls’ finisher for SOFLO. She was fourth in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:34.77; went a best time in the 50-yard freestyle to finish sixth in 36.98, dropping 1.06 seconds; and was seventh in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:22.54.

Mattias Tejada, 10, had an impressive time drop in the 100-yard freestyle. He swam a best time 1:33.70 dropping 32.75 seconds off his previous best of 2:06.45.

SOFLO has 14 swimmers (seven girls and seven boys) competing in 37 individual events in two sessions.

SOFLO Heads Field For This Weekend’s Michael’s Memorial Meet

MIAMI, September 9, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club heads the field for the ninth annual Michael’s Memorial Meet this weekend at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus Aquatic Center.

SOFLO’s large contingent features 86 swimmers (46 boys and 40 girls) in 452 individual events and four relays.

SOFLO will be joined by four other teams including Bravo Swim Team, Eagle Aquatics, Metro Aquatic Club of Miami and co-host Midtown Weston Aquatics.

Timed final action gets under way each day at 10:30 a.m. with warm-up at 9 a.m.

Since 2013, Florida Gold Coast has scheduled the Michael’s Memorial Meet in September as a tribute to a great man who loved the sport of swimming.

Michael Fish was hit by a drunk driver the morning of May 14, 2011, while riding his bike and pronounced dead the next day on May 15th. He was survived by his wife Kathy Fish and children Jared and Hannah.

To create awareness, every year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organizes a 5K walk/run to pay tribute to victims and raise money to help families of victims of drunk driving.
