SOFLO Girls Sweep Distance Event On Opening Day Of SOFLO Distance IMX/IMR TYR Challenge

PEMBROKE PINES, September 30, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers dominated opening night action at the SOFLO Distance IMX/IMR TYR Challenge Friday at Academic Village Pool.

SOFLO girls swept the top three spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Auburn University-commit Olivia Dinehart, 17, won the distance event in 17 minutes, 38.77 seconds. Teammates Maddy Smutny, 17, was second in 17:48.82 and Elena Dinehart, 17, was third in 17:59.96.

Juan Vallmitjana, 13, was SOFLO’s top boys’ finisher placing third in a best time 16:19.12, dropping 25.39 from his previous best of 16:44.51.

SOFLO teammate Felix Gonzalez, 15, was fourth in 16:47.64, also a best time dropping 3.02 seconds. His previous best was 16:50.66.

The three-day meet continues Saturday with two sessions beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concludes on Sunday, again with two sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. Warm-up is 7:30 a.m.

SOFLO heads the field with 174 (91 girls and 83 boys) swimmers in 879 individual events. Among other Florida Gold Coast teams in the field are Pine Crest, Metro Aquatics, Plantation Swim Team, Midtown Weston, Olympus Swim Club, North Miami Swim Team and Hialeah Swim Club. It is one of the most competitive fields ever assembled for the meet.
