Despite blustery wind conditions, volunteers and officials ran a well-oiled machine of a meet.

SOFLO coaches were able to identify some of the team’s future star swimmers brimming with confidence, talent and work ethic.

Kaii Winkler, 10, of Miami Swimming set his second national age group record this season, this time in the 500-yard freestyle time trials in 5:08. He also broke the 200-yard freestyle record in 1:57.75 at the Gulliver Winter Classic.

With depth and talent, SOFLO swimmers dominated the meet with event sweeps and time drops and now hope to do the same by defending its JO title at Coral Springs.

Among SOFLO’s individual winners on Sunday were:

Victoria Torres, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:51.50, time drop.

Kellie Wilcox, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:54.17; 200-yard backstroke, 2:33.47.

Anastasia Lutz, 100-yard freestyle, 1:08.74, time drop.

Alana Acevedo, 100-yard freestyle, 58.83, time drop; 100-yard butterfly, 1:05.60 time drop.

Natalia Sibug, 50-yard backstroke, 36.81, time drop.

Mallory Schleicher, 100-yard butterfly, 1:06.00, time drop.

Katherine De Barros, 50-yard breaststroke, 37.08, time drop.

Nicolas Rossi, 100-yard freestyle, 51.82.

David Avalos Aday, 100-yard freestyle, 53.05; 50-yard breaststroke, 31.11.

Alex Golding, 100-yard butterfly, 1:11.01, time drop.

Samuel Quintero, 100-yard butterfly, 56.76.

Alex Zepeda, 200-yard backstroke, 2:30.89, time drop.

“I was extremely happy with our developmental kids,” SOFLO coach Chris Anderson said. “They did a great job of making more cuts for JOs. We definitely accomplished the goals of what we need to be successful and to have even a more successful JOs in two weeks.”

Anderson and his coaching staff were also pleased to see so many up-and-coming swimmers with potential.

“We always to try and identify five or six more superstars,” Anderson said. “We make that a tradition for our club. It doesn’t matter whether the meet is at our pool or another pool. These kids are emerging.”

The weather and sheer meet numbers with more than 600 swimmers, was a challenge for volunteers and officials.

“Our volunteers were happy about running a quality meet,” Anderson said. “This was one of the more difficult meets to run with the windy conditions.

“I think everyone was happy that the meet not only prepared our club but other clubs as well to come back at night in finals and be even more successful. Kids made more cuts for JOs from all the clubs and officials and volunteers had a lot to do with that.”

In addition to host SOFLO, the three-day meet attracted AquaKids Sharks, ACE Swim Club, Amphibius Assault Swim Team, Atlantis Swim Club, Bone Island Swim Club, Hurricane Swimming, City of Miami Swim Team, Devilrays Swim Club, FLA Aquatics, Florida Keys Swim Club, FIU, Gulliver Swimming, Hialeah, Metro Aquatics, Miami Beach Seahawks, Mater Lakes Bears Swim Team, Miami Country Day Aquatics, Miami Shores Aquatics, Miami Swimming, North Miami Swim Team, Shelton Doral Swim Team, Southern Wahoos Aquatic Team, Swim Gym Swim Team and University of Miami.
