Ransom Everglades Sweep District 12-1A Titles, SOFLO Swimmers Dominate; Benjamin Girls, Lincoln Park Boys Win District 9-1A Titles At Indian River

MIAMI, October 20, 2021–It was a great day for South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers at the FHSAA District 12-1A Swimming Championships Wednesday at Ransom Everglades.

Auburn University commit Olivia Dinehart and Maddy Smutny were double winners for Cutler Bay and teammate Elena Dinehart was an individual winner.

Olivia Dinehart won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.36 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.79.

Maddy Smutny won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.84 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.19.

Elena Dinehart won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.56. She was also second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.57.

The foursome of Elena Dinehart, Olivia Dinehart, Maddy Smutny and Nat Gembicki were members of the winning 200-yard medley (1:51.62) and 400-yard freestyle relays (3:39.92).

Gembicki was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.82 and third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.44.

Izzy Wilson of Carrollton was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:13.30.

Sophia Grubbs was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.87 and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.10.

Ivan Grass was a double winner for the Cutler Bay boys. Grass won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.57 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.91.

Cutler Bay’s 400-yard freestyle relay won in 3:25.77 with SOFLO swimmers Adrian Hernandez, Ivan Grass, Austin Nelson and Alexander Miller.

Cutler Bay’s 200-yard medley relay won in 1:46.40 with SOFLO swimmers Nelson, Miller, Jaden Amores and Hernandez.

Jaden Amores was also second in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.46 and third in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.40.

Hernandez was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.53 and third in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.61.

Nelson was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.43 and 100-yard backstroke in 57.55.

Miller was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.43. Nicholas Pelaez of Cutler Bay was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.62.

The 1-meter diving is scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Next up the Region 4-1A meet at NSU Aquatic Center on Oct, 29 at 10 a.m.

Ransom Everglades Sweeps District 12-1A Team Titles; SOFLO’s Elena Dinehart, Olivia Dinehart, Maddy Smutny, Miguel Sierra, Adrian Hernandez District Champions

MIAMI, November 1, 2020–Ransom Everglades swept the boys and girls team titles in the District 12-1A Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the host Raiders pool.

The girls’ team relied on its depth and 200-yard freestyle relay win to edge Carrollton School, 414-401, for the girls’ team titles.

The boys’ team, led by double winner Magnus Kron, individual winner Alec Garcia-Caceres and 200-yard freestyle relay win, won with 464 points, more than 100 than runner-up Cutler Bay with 358.

South Florida Aquatic Club had several swimmers finish among the top four including five district champions.

Sophomore Olivia Dinehart of Cutler Bay was a double winner and member of two winning relays. Dinehart won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.52 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.16.

Cutler Bay sophomore teammate and twin sister Elena Dinehart won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.30 and was also a member of two winning relays.

Sophomore Maddy Smutny of Cutler Bay was also a double winning and member of two winning relays. She won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.47 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:15.49.

Senior Lucy Smutny was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay.

Senior Miguel Sierra of Cutler Bay was a double winner and member of two winning relays. Sierra won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.64 and 100-yard backstroke in 53.14.

Freshman Adrian Hernandez of Cutler Bay won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.24 and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay.

Qualified swimmers now advance to the Region 4-1A meet hosted by St. Andrew’s School at Indian River State College, Nov. 2 for both swimming and diving at 9:30 a.m.

SOFLO Swimmers Ready For Fourth Intrasquad Meet On Saturday

PEMBROKE PINES, August 28, 2020—If last weekend’s intrasquad meet is any indication, there will be more time drops and competitive racing at South Florida Aquatic Club’s fourth intrasquad meet.

Bronze, Silver, Meteorites and Asteroids swimmers will get another chance to race in a controlled atmosphere at Academic Village Pool.

After more than four months of not racing, South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers are not only training well but getting in some much-needed racing and fun competition in a unique format to gauge training and fitness levels.

Observing stringent local, state and federal public health COVID-19 guidelines, SOFLO is hosting its fourth intrasquad training meet with a 6:45 a.m. start. It will be live streamed on SOFLO’s Facebook page.

Last weekend 153 girl and boy swimmers had time drops in the five events’ mixed 13-and-under, 12-16 and 12-and-under sessions.

Session 1 will feature Bronze swimmers at 6:45 a.m. followed by Session 2 for Silver and Senior Fit at 8:45 a.m. and Session 3 Dippers at 10:30 a.m.

In a safe environment, swimmers will compete with no more than ten in each heat, another ten warming up or warming down and ten in the bullpen area. The same seeded heats will be maintained to avoid any cross contamination between heats. Every race will be about 25 to 30 minutes apart.

The USA Swimming-sanctioned meet will be run without volunteers (other than the minimum number of officials required). No spectators are permitted on deck.

Alan Bertea Top SOFLO Finisher In Coral Springs Open Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, February 10, 2020—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers got in some good racing and had some nice time drops Saturday at the Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

Alan Bertea, 15, was SOFLO’s top finisher placing fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.77. Dario Martin, 15, of Olympus Swimming Club won the event in 2:09.82.

Other top SOFLO finishers were:

Izzy Wilson, 13, seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in a best time 2:25.05 and ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.28, also a best time.

Elise Dinehart, 11, was tenth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a best time 2:50.96.

Adrian Hernandez, 14, was 11th in both the 100-yard backstroke in a best time 1:01.29 and 50-yard breaststroke in a best time 31.99.

Austin Nelson, 14, was 11th in the 200-yard butterfly in a best time 2:17.59.

On Saturday only, SOFLO Sharks had 41 boys and 34 girls racing in 275 individual events.

The long course meters meet was timed finals.

Baldwin, Pando, Hernandez Top SOFLO Performers At SOFLO & TYR Back To School Meet

PEMBROKE PINES, August 17, 2019–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers got the chance to get in a little racing after summer break and turned in some good results at the SOFLO & TYR Back To School Developmental Meet Saturday at Academic Village Pool.

Jemma Baldwin swept all four events she entered and posted four lifetime-bests.

Baldwin, 8, won the 25-yard butterfly in 17.26 with a time drop of 0.59 seconds; 25-yard backstroke in 19.36 with a time drop of 0.88; 25-yard breaststroke in 22.28 with a time drop of 0.79 and 25-yard freestyle in 15.51 with a time drop of 0.76.

Leah Pando, 13, won three events and finished second in another. She won the 50-yard butterfly in 32.52 with a 2.26 time drop; 50-yard backstroke in 34.49; and 100-yard individual medley in 1:11.65. She was also second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 38.50 with a time drop of 0.22.

Adrian Hernandez, 13, also won three events. He won the 50-yard butterfly in 28.94 with a time drop of 1.90; 50-yard freestyle in 26.14 with a time of 0.72; and 100-yard individual medley in 1:04.84 with a time drop of 2.81. He was also second in the 50-yard backstroke in 31.04 with a time drop of 1.52.

Cherill Royalty, 8, had four second place finishes all with best times.

Isabella Perry, 10, finished second in the 50-yard butterfly in 33.63 with a nice time drop of 4.45 seconds. She was also a member of the winning 100-yard freestyle relay that won in 58.32.

Noah Mejias, 8, had three second place finishes all with best times including a 7.28 seconds in the 25-yard breaststroke.

SOFLO had 64 swimmers (38 boys, 26 girls) in 242 individual events and three relays in the meet.

The meet was for those 14-and-under swimmers who do not have a “B” time in their selected events yet.

Sophia Grubbs Leads SOFLO In Session Three Of NPB Summer Kickoff

June 2, 2019—Sophia Grubbs of South Florida Aquatic Club won her first event of the 11th annual North Palm Beach Long Course Summer Kickoff Sunday at Plantation Central Park Aquatic Complex.

On the second and final day of the meet, Grubbs, 14, won the 13-14 200-meter breaststroke in 2:59.02.

Grubbs was also 13th in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:45.55 and 16th in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:22.86, also held on Sunday.

Izzy Wilson, 12, was sixth in the 400-meter freestyle in a best time 4:51.93, dropping 1.31 seconds off her previous best.

Adrian Hernandez, 13, was SOFLO’s top boys’ finisher. Hernandez finished the meet with two fifth places and three career-best times.

Hernandez was fifth in the 13-14 200-meter individual medley in 2:37.14, dropping 1.88 and 100-meter backstroke in 1:13.19, dropping 3.57.

Hernandez was also 11th in the 400-meter freestyle in a best time 4:49.54, shaving 3.75 seconds off his previous best and cracking 4:50 minutes for the first time. His previous best was 4:53.29.

SOFLO has the largest team with 83 swimmers entered in 394 time final races.

The meet, one of the Florida Gold Coast’s top summer meets, has attracted some of the Florida Gold Coast’s top teams including Azura, Boca Raton Swim Team, SwimFast, Martin County, Swim Fort Lauderdale, Miami Swimming and hosts North Palm Beach and Plantation Swim Team.

Sophia Avila, Ruth Kauffman, Austin Nelson, Adrian Hernandez Lead SOFLO On Day Two Of Sunrise Holiday Champs

SUNRISE, December 15, 2018—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers stepped up on Day Two of the Sunrise Swimming Holiday Champs Saturday at Sunrise Civic Center Pool.

Several swimmers had top three finishes and best times.

Sophia Avila, 10, finished second in the 7-10 100-yard backstroke in 1:26.81. She swam a best time of 1:24.14 in morning prelims. She was also third in the 50-yard freestyle in 33.26, after dropping time in prelims in 32.78. She has 13 points in high point.

Ruth Kauffman, 16, was second in the 15-and-over 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.14. She first bettered her previous best time in prelims in 1:09.54 and came back in finals with another best time of 1:09.14. She has seven points in high point.

Austin Nelson, 13, was second in the 13-14 100-yard backstroke in a best time 1:08.04. He has seven points in high point.

Adrian Hernandez, 13, had another good night placing second in the 13-14 100-yard individual medley in a best time 1:09.51. He has eight points in high point. He improved his previous best in the event in both prelims and finals.

SOFLO is among a 13-team field of mostly Florida Gold Coast swim clubs. The field features Alper J Swim Club, Asoc. Natacion El Milenio, Broward Elite, Coral Springs Swim Club, Cyclones, Gulliver, Hammerhead Aquatics, Hurricane Aquatics, Lake Lytal Lightning, Speed World Swimming, SwimFast, host Sunrise Swimming and three unattached teams.

In last year’s meet, SOFLO won the combined and boys team titles. The SOFLO boys team won with 815 points. Sunrise Swimming was runner-up with 575. The SOFLO girls team was second with 615 points behind Sunrise Swimming with 666. SOFLO won the combined team title with 1,430 points. Sunrise Swimming was second with 1,241.

Ava Kuznik, Adrian Hernandez SOFLO’s Top Finishers On Day One Of Sunrise Holiday Champs

SUNRISE, December 14, 2018—Ava Kuznik and Adrian Hernandez led South Florida Aquatic Club Friday at the Sunrise Swimming Holiday Champs at Sunrise Civic Center Pool.

Kuznik, 13, finished sixth in the 13-14 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:40.63. She shaved 2.44 seconds off her previous best. She has six events left to swim over two days.

SOFLO girls had four time drops. The other three were Reagan Lowe (5.26 drop), Kaitlyn Consuegra (5.71 drop) and Olivia Ware (39.22 drop) in the 500-yard freestyle. The boys had two time drops.

Adrian Hernandez was SOFLO boys top finisher placing ninth in the 13-14 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:36.63 (10.42 drop). Teammate Austin Nelson was 11th in a best time 5:47.95 (21.32 time drop).

Coral Springs Swim Club, host Sunrise Swimming, SwimFast and Gulliver Swim Club dominated opening day action.

SOFLO is among a 13-team field of mostly Florida Gold Coast swim clubs. The field features Alper J Swim Club, Asoc. Natacion El Milenio, Broward Elite, Coral Springs Swim Club, Cyclones, Gulliver, Hammerhead Aquatics, Hurricane Aquatics, Lake Lytal Lightning, Speed World Swimming, SwimFast, host Sunrise Swimming and three unattached teams.

In last year’s meet, SOFLO won the combined and boys team titles. The SOFLO boys team won with 815 points. Sunrise Swimming was runner-up with 575. The SOFLO girls team was second with 615 points behind Sunrise Swimming with 666. SOFLO won the combined team title with 1,430 points. Sunrise Swimming was second with 1,241.
