Santander, Valls Win On Final Day Of All-Florida Sr. Circuit Meet

May 15, 2016—Andrea Santander of Pine Crest Swimming and Kyla Valls of Miami Swimming were top local winners at the All-Florida Senior Circuit Meet Sunday at Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatics Center in Fort Myers.

Santander, 14, won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:22.04.

Valls, 17, won the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 56.24. Her previous best was 57.45. She lowered it first in prelims in 56.82.

Guillaume Bolivard, 18, of Swim Fort Lauderdale was the top Florida Gold Coast boys finisher, winning the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 53.25, dropping from 53.64.

South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers did not compete on the third and final day.

SOFLO’s Alvarez, Rivera, Kopecki, Pelaez Shine On Opening Day Of Senior Circuit Meet

May 13, 2016—Monica Alvarez, Santiago Rivera and C.J. Kopecki were top South Florida Aquatic Club finishers Friday night in the All-Florida Senior Circuit Meet at Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatics Center in Fort Myers.

Alvarez, 27, was third in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:14.31 followed by SOFLO teammate Ksen Golovkina, 26, fourth in 1:14.71.

Rivera, 19, was fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke in a best time 1:07.94. He swam back-to-back bests, 1:10.57 in prelims. He dropped 4.99 seconds. His previous time was 1:12.93.

C.J. Kopecki, 16, was fourth in the 400-meter individual medley in 5:02.62.

Catalina Mendieta, 26, was seventh in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:03.97, just off her seed time of 1:03.89.

In the 200-meter freestyle, Emiliana Pelaez, 17, swam back-to-back best times. She swam 2:11.28 in finals to finish 13th. She had swum 2:14.73, also a best time in prelims. Her previous best was 2:14.88.

The three-day meet is also serving as an Olympic Trials qualifier. The meet continues Saturday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.

SOFLO Swimmers Ready For This Weekend’s All-Florida Sr. Circuit Meet

May 12, 2016—A talented group of South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers, headed by U.S. Olympic hopeful Megan Romano and Suriname’s Raiz Tjon-A-Joe, will compete Friday through Sunday in the All-Florida Senior Circuit Meet at Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatics Center in Fort Myers.

The three-day meet, which is also serving as an Olympic Trials qualifier, is fast, according to meet officials.

Seventeen teams, including several from the Florida Gold Coast, are entered.

SOFLO is sending 13 swimmers to the meet. They are:

Tjon-A-Joe, 18, a national record holder, 100-meter breaststroke, 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. Tjon-A-Joe is seeded first in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:06.92.

Romano, 25, a former world champion, 50- and 400-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke. Romano is seeded first in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.94 and 400 freestyle in 4:18.98 and second in the 50 freestyle in 25.69.

Catalina Mendieta, 26, 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke.

Ksen Golovkina, 26, 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle.

Monica Alvarez, 27, 100-meter breaststroke.

South Florida Aquatic Club picked up four wins Saturday in the All Florida Senior Circuit Meet at Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center.

The senior meet was featured during the three-day Blue Wave Classic hosted by Blue Wave Swimming that began on Friday.

SOFLO’s 24-swimmer contingent was the only Florida Gold Coast team competing.

SOFLO swimmers, in the midst of heavy long course training, made a good showing against some of state’s central and northern swimmers. All events were timed finals and open.

Esteban Diaz-Velasco, 15, was the team’s only double winner, sweeping the backstroke events.

Diaz-Velasco won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:05.85 in the meet’s opening session. He came back in the second session to win the 200-meter backstroke in 2:19.38.

CJ Kopecki, 14, won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:35.26.

SOFLO swept the top three places in the 800-meter freestyle. In an exciting race, Alex Monti, 16, won a close race in 9:43.34 against Ricardo Roche, 14, in 9:43.87. Kopecki was third in 10:28.39.

Kelley Heron, 14, was SOFLO girls top finisher placing second in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:32.67.

SOFLO Swimmers Headed For Day Of Swimming And Fun

South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers are hitting the road this weekend for a fun senior travel meet at Indian River State College.

The day-long meet in Fort Pierce will give swimmers a chance to watch the Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Star Meet and also compete in the afternoon All Florida Senior Circuit Swim Meet.

SOFLO will compete on the first of the two-day meet, a 25-yard timed final session that begins at noon.

SOFLO has 11 female and 9 male swimmers entered in 39 individual events.

The boys competing are Ryan Capote, 16; Jordan Colon, 16; Nelson Alejandro Diaz, 17; Juan Lucas, 15; Alex Monti, 15; Marc Rojas, 20; Cristian Rossi, 15; Jonathan Strod 15; and Gustavo Valery, 16.

The girls are Katherine DeBarros, 13; Star Fassler, 15; Kylie Herman, 16; Olivia Katcher, 18; Maria Lopez, 18; Melissa Marinheiro, 16; Stephanie Mlujeak, 15; Abolade Oyetunji, 14; Astrid Rigau, 17; Jennifer Rodriguez, 13; and Jessica Rodriguez, 15.

After the meet SOFLO will have lunch and hit the beach for some fun activities before returning to watch the All-Star meet finals before heading home.

SOFLO All-Star Swimmers

South Florida Aquatic Club had seven swimmers named to the Florida Gold Coast Open Water All-Star team.

Those selected are Anita Huang, Vanessa Mesa, Leonardo Mateus, Rafael Rodriguez, Gabriel Segui, C.J. Kopecki and Kevin Porto.

The seven swimmers will represent the Florida Gold Coast against Florida Swimming.
