November 2, 2017—While South Florida Aquatic Club high school swimmers compete in region and state meets, club swimmers will compete in two meets this weekend in Sunrise and Pompano Beach.
SOFLO swimmers will compete in the Sunrise Swimming 8&Under Sizzler on Friday at Sunrise Civic Center Pool.
Seven SOFLO swimmers will compete in the Sizzler. The event is for 6-and-under and 7-8 swimmers. Events are 25-yard sprint races in all four strokes and each age group and 8-and-under 100-yard freestyle relay.
The SOFLO group features Jordan Evans, 6; Shelby Evans, 7; Martin Petkov, 8; Adrian Sowma, 8; Aryav Thakur, 8; Juan Vallmitjana, 8; and Oleksii Viazmetinov, 8.
Fourteen other SOFLO swimmers will compete in 52 individual events at the Pompano Beach Piranhas Turkey Classic in two sessions at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The morning session will feature swimmers in the 10-and-under and 11-and-12 age groups competing in 50-yard sprint races in every stroke. The afternoon session is for 13-and-14 and 15-and-over age groups in the same sprint races.
SOFLO will have 10 boys and four girls in the meet. They are: Kaitlyn Consuegra, 11; Kerry Ann Cunningham, 11; Izaac Garcia, 13; Logan Gonzalez, 12; Colin Gregory, 11; Gabriella Lissa, 12; Reagan Lowe, 12; Julian Lugones, 10; Isaac Nones, 10; Martin Petkov, 8; Juan-Esteban Ramirez, 12; Maximiliano Salguero, 13; Aryav Thakur, 8; and Juan Vallmitjana, 8.
The swim meets are sponsored by the Pompano Beach Piranhas and City of Pompano Beach.
There is no admission at the door but the host club is using the event as a food drive to help feed the hungry and homeless in Broward County. The host club is asking visitors to bring a gift that would help provide food and groceries for families. Non-perishable goods and canned goods are emphasized. A local agency will be designated to receive the food gifts. Heat sheets are $3.
