South Florida Aquatic Club’s Steph Campo took up where she left off at the CAT Escape The Heat Swim Meet in Clearwater on Thursday night in her home pool.

Campo, 14, turned in another career-best time on the opening night of the inaugural Michael Lohberg Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

Campo finished second in the 13-and-over 800-meter freestyle in a best 9:53.63. Her previous best was 9:55.66.

SOFLO teammate Audrey Mason, 14, was third in the 13-and-over 400-meter individual medley in 5:48.66.

The four-day meet featuring several teams including Bermuda, honors six-time Olympic coach Michael Lohberg who died April 4, 2011 at age 61 after a lengthy battle with aplastic anemia.

The Hall of Fame coach was instrumental in turning the Coral Springs Swim Club program into a national-caliber team.

The meet continues Friday with a full schedule of prelims at 8:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.

Charlene Forti and Audrey Mason were each double winners for the South Florida Aquatic Club Saturday night at the Florida Gold Coast Central Area 2 Developmental Meet at Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Complex.

Forti, 12, who won the girls 11-12 100-meter breaststroke on Friday night added two more events in second day action.

Forti won 11-12 200-meter freestyle in a career-best and Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympics qualifying time of 2:30.97. Forti also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:23.14, another FGJO time and career-best time. Her previous best time was 1:30.03.

Mason, 13, won the 13-14 100-meter backstroke in 1:17.79, a career-best time and FGJO time. Her previous best was 1:21.18. She also won the 50-meter butterfly in 33.54, also a career-best and FGJO time. Her previous best was 38.71.

The meet ends on Sunday.

The future looks bright for South Florida Aquatic Club boys and girls swimmers after their performances at the three-day Florida Gold Coast Area 2 Developmental Meet at Academic Village Pool Sunday in Pembroke Pines.

On the third and final day, SOFLO swimmers swam to 24 Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympic qualifying times.

The boys, led by Rodrigo Rodriguez, totaled 13 FGJO times and girls, led by Audrey Mason, posted eleven FGJO times. Rodriguez and Mason each had three FGJO times.

Over three days, swimmers turned in sixty FGJO times (15 on Friday, 21 on Saturday and 24 on Sunday) and 217 career-best times.

“Our coaches had our swimmers very well-prepared, it was a great meet,” SOFLO CEO and Coach Chris Anderson said.

Mason, 13 won the 13-14 200-meter freestyle in 2:24.48; 50-meter freestyle in 31.23; and 200-meter backstroke in 2:50.46. All three times were career-bests.

Rodriguez, 12, was second in the 11-12 100-meter freestyle in 1:10.61; second in the 50-meter breaststroke in 45.06 and third in the 50-meter backstroke in 39.85, all career-best and FGJO times.

Other SOFLO girls posting FGJO cut times were:

Isabella Pittinger, 11, won the 11-12 100-meter freestyle in a career-best time of 1:12.33 bettering her previous best time of 1:29.58; and 50-meter backstroke in 36.24, bettering her previous best time of 46.16. Both were FGJO qualifying cuts.

Luisa Suzuki, 12, was second in the 11-12 100-meter freestyle in 1:14.30 and fourth in the 50-meter breaststroke in 44.85, a career-best time.

Natasha Testa, 12, was second in the 11-12 50-meter breaststroke in 43.53, bettering her previous best time of 46.27.

Lilli Calero, 12, was third in the 11-12 50-meter breaststroke in 44.09, bettering her previous best of 45.50.

Delanie Perez, 10, won the 12-and-under 400-meter individual medley in 6:16.37 in her event debut.

Delaney Biro, 9, was third in the 10-and-under 100-meter freestyle in 1:22.05 bettering her previous best time of 1:24.03.

Amanda Kopas, 8, was fourth in the 10-and-under 100-meter freestyle in a career-best 1:22.85. Her previous best was 1:26.65.

Other SOFLO boys turning in FGJO qualifying times were:

William Perry III, 14, won the 13-14 200-meter freestyle in a career-best 2:21.40. His previous best was 2:29.39.

Sebastian Vargas, 12, was third in the 11-12 100-meter freestyle in a personal-best 1:12.76, bettering his previous best of 1:18.20.

Andres Lares, 11, was fourth in the 11-12 100-meter freestyle in 1:14.13, a career-best time. His previous best was 1:20.71.

Kevin Porto, 11, won the 12-and-under 200-meter backstroke in 2:40.55.

Gus Cohn, 10, was second in the 10-and-under 50-meter backstroke in a career-best 43.82. His previous best was 46.29.

In the boys’ 12-and-under 400-meter individual medley, it was a SOFLO sweep with four FGJO times. Julien Pinon, 12, won in 5:20.82 followed by Juan Lucas, 12, 5:44.60; Cristian Rossi, 12, 5:56.49; and Samuel Quintero, 10, 5:56.60.
