Cypress Bay Sweeps Everglades, Pompano Beach, Finishes Dual Meet Season Undefeated, Ready For Districts

POMPANO BEACH, October 11, 2019–Cypress Bay is more than ready for the post-season after finishing the regular season undefeated after Thursday wins over Pompano Beach and Everglades.

The Lightning girls defeated Pompano Beach, 132-53, and Everglades, 136-41. In the other matchup, Pompano Beach topped Everglades, 111-58.

Cypress Bay swept all three girls relays and won four individual events including Paige Lane in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.68.

Everglades had three individual winners including Sarah Acevedo in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.84.

The Lightning boys defeated Pompano Beach, 107-63, and Everglades, 102-65. Pompano Beach edged Everglades, 85-84, in the other matchup.

Cypress Bay won two boys relays and had three individual winners including Philopatier Ibrahim in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.69.

Among winners for Everglades were Juan Colmenares and Alejandro Mateus.

Christina Hilton of Pompano Beach won the 1-meter diving with 225.85 points. Double winner Rafael Santos, Alexandro Marquez and Lorelei Bennett led the Tornadoes with wins.

With plenty of talent and depth, Cypress Bay will now fine tune to try and defend its title at the Oct. 29 District 10-4A at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex Michael Lohberg School of Champions.

Pembroke Pines Charter Ends Dual Meet Season On Winning Note, Boys Team Finishes Undefeated

PEMBROKE PINES, October 11, 2019–Pembroke Pines Charter swept Piper in its regular season finale Thursday at Academic Village Pool.

The Jaguars boys team defeated the Bengals, 130-26, to finish the regular season undefeated at 9-0.

In an exciting boys’ 100-yard butterfly race, Christian Tijero of Pembroke Pines Charter outsprinted Gabriel Ferdinand of Piper, 1:00.26-1:00.44.

The Jaguars swept all three boys relays and had seven different individual winners.

The girls team finished with an 8-1 win-loss record with a 127-24 win over Piper.

The Jaguar girls also swept all three relays and had seven different individual winners.

Piper had two individual winners. Jayden Scarlett won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle in 24.58. Sarah Colado won the girls’ 100-yard backstroke in 1:14.34.

Pembroke Pines Charter will now fine tune for the Oct. 29 District 11-3A meet at Fort Lauderdale High School Aquatic Center.

Pompano Beach Girls, Boys Sweep Coral Springs, Piper, Stranahan

POMPANO BEACH, September 27, 2019–A week before the Oct. 5 BCAA Championships in Plantation, Pompano Beach swimmers got in some good racing while picking up three girls and three boys wins in Wednesday’s four-team home meet.

The Tornadoes girls defeated Piper, 107-34, Coral Springs, 103-50, and Stranahan, 116-0, by forfeit. Coral Springs topped Piper, 76-53.

Pompano Beach won all three girls relays and five individual events.

Victoria Zlateva led the Tornadoes as a double winner in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.03 and 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.22.

Lauren Suglio was a double winner for Coral Springs in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:39.83 and 100-yard butterfly in 1:13.26.

The boys team beat Piper, 104-40, and Coral Springs, 99-61, and also picked up a forfeit win from Stranahan. Coral Springs defeated Piper, 95-47.

Pompano Beach also swept all three boys relays. The Tornadoes won six individual events including double winners Steven Gary and Jake Schulte.

Gary won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.05, 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.44 and anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

Schulte won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.56 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.34. He was a member of two winning relays.

Stranahan did not compete and forfeited wins to opponents.

Monarch Sweeps Home Meet In Tuneup For Next Week’s BCAA

COCONUT CREEK, September 26, 2019–Monarch boys and girls swimmers picked up four more wins and got a chance to tune up for the Oct. 5 BCAA Championships at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Monarch girls defeated Plantation, 77-1, and Miramar, 72-7, in its BCAA home meet. In the other matchup, Miramar topped Plantation, 18-1.

Monarch won the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. Giulianna Garica and Hayley Taylor each won two individual events.

Garica won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:20.59 and 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.77.

Taylor won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.00 and 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.28.

In the boys’ competition, Monarch defeated Plantation, 68-19, and Miramar, 80-5. Plantation topped Miramar, 30-8.

Monarch won all three boys relays and four individual events. Murilo Da Silva was a double winner in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:23.14 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.78.

Alexis Sanchez of Plantation was a double winner for the boys. Sanchez won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.45 and 100-yard backstroke in 57.69. Teammate Renato Herron won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.32.

Miramar’s Makaio Miller won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle in 27.01.

Fort Lauderdale Boys, Coral Springs Charter Girls Sweep

FORT LAUDERDALE, September 26, 2019—In the Flying Ls last home meet of the regular season, the boys’ team swept all three relays and won all eight individual events to dominate its home finale.

In the BCAA meet, Fort Lauderdale defeated McArthur, 142-23, and Coral Springs Charter, 138-24. In the other matchup, Coral Springs Charter topped McArthur, 72-61.

Matthew Gocke, Dylan Felt and Georgy Goncharov were double winners.

Gocke won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.18 and 100-yard frestyle in 53.99.

Felt won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.93 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.70.

Goncharov won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.83 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.70.

In the girls’ competition, Coral Springs Charter swept McArthur, 128-31, and Fort Lauderdale, 96-83. In the other competition, Fort Lauderdale defeated McArthur, 131-35.

Delaney Biro and Amber Candido each won two events for Coral Springs Charter.

Julia Maier of Fort Lauderdale won the girls diving meet. There was no boys diving.

Fort Lauderdale will return to its pool in late October when it hosts its district meet on October 29.

Undefeated Pembroke Pines Charter Boys Team Shines, Picks Up Three Wins

DAVIE–In a four-team meet, Pembroke Pines Charter boys team defeated Cardinal Gibbons, Ely and host Nova in a BCAA meet on Wednesday.

The Jaguar boys topped Cardinal Gibbons, 62-32; Ely, 83-2; and Nova, 78-16. In the other boys’ matchups, Cardinal Gibbons defeated Nova, 52-42, and Ely, 72-4, and Nova defeated Ely, 72-4.

The Jaguars won the boys’ 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Nick Chaimowicz led the Jaguars with two individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.58 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.04. He was also a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Jaguars boys team is 8-0 and girls team is 7-1.

In the girls’ competition, Pembroke Pines Charter and Cardinal Gibbons each picked up two wins. The Jaguars defeated Nova, 64-38, and Ely, 83-0. The Chiefs defeated Nova, 66-36, and Pembroke Pines Charter, 58-36. Nova and Cardinal Gibbons also received forfeit wins from Ely.

Cardinal Gibbons swept all three girls relays. Melody Yates was a double winner for the Chiefs. Yates won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.66 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.86.

Samantha Trodick of Nova won two events in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.14 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.47.

Maria Herne led Pembroke Pines Charter with two wins in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.69 and 100-yard freestyle in 59.75.

Sophia Pfitzenmaier of Nova won the girls 1-meter diving. There was no boys diving.

Cooper City Cowboys Sweep Pompano Beach, Northeast

COOPER CITY, September 19, 2019–Cooper City boys and girls teams picked up four more wins Wednesday afternoon with impressive victories over Pompano Beach and Northeast.

The girls team, led by double winners Molly Golding, Kate Kaplan and Mallory Schleicher, defeated Pompano Beach, 117-66, and Northeast, 142-28. In the other matchup, Pompano Beach beat Northeast, 132-33.

Golding won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.50 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.51.

Kaplan won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.14 and 100-yard freestyle in 59.65.

Schleicher won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.90 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.15.

Cooper City swept all three girls relays.

Led by individual winners, Michael Cline, Robert Wilson, Isiah Reilly and Javier Roman, the boys team topped Pompano Beach, 104-71, and Northeast, 140-22. In the other matchup, Pompano Beach defeated Northeast 133-24.

Cline won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.88. Wilson won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.18. Roman won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.12. Reilly won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.56.

The Cowboys also won the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Alexandro Marquez and Rafael Santos were double winners for the Tornadoes. Pompano Beach also won the 200-yard medley relay.
