SOFLO’s Connor Jimenez Comes Up Big At Middle School Swimming Championships

BOCA RATON, May 4, 2023—Connor Jimenez of American Heritage Plantation dominated the Middle School Swimming Championships Wednesday at Boca Raton High School Aquatic Complex.

The South Florida Aquatic Club swimmer won four events, two individual and two relays and finished with 40 points.

Jimenez won the 100-yard freestyle in a best time 52.45, dropping 0.65 seconds from his previous best of 53.10 and won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.12.

Jimenez was a member of the boys’ winning 200-yard medley relay that won in 1:54.40 with teammates Rafael Passaro, Stepan Vandysh and Devin Polk. Jimenez swam third leg.

He was also a member of the boys’ winning 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.03 with the same three teammates. Jimenez swam lead-off leg.

American Heritage Plantation Middle School won the boys’ team title with 407 points. American Heritage Delray Beach was a distant second with 199.

St. Andrew’s Aquatics won the girls’ team title with 378 ahead of Westminster Academy with 272 and American Heritage Plantation with 249 points.

Barracudas Win Team Title At All-Star Meet; SOFLO’s Jianna Amores, Jen Amores, Elise Dinehart Top Finishers On Final Day

FORT PIERCE, March 30, 2023—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers were among top finishers on the fourth and final session of Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Stars meet Sunday morning at Indian River State College’s Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex.

A fun and exciting new four-team meet format, which was well-received by swimmers, coaches, including SOFLO Coach Issy, and parents, was used that mixed the top athletes from both Florida Swimming and Florida Gold Coast via a draft format. The All-Star meet was a winner-take-all, with one team earning bragging rights until next year.

The Barracudas earned those bragging rights winning the combined team title with 1,097 points, just ahead of the Gators with 1,078. The Gators won the boys team title with 510.5 and the Sharks, buoyed by several SOFLO swimmers, won the girls’ team title with 487 points.

SOFLO had 11 swimmers competing. They are: Catalina Akpabio, 10, Jenesys Amores, 14, Jianna Amores, 12, Jemma Baldwin, 12, Elise Dinehart, 14, Laila Harran, 13, Ellie Jackson, 12, Connor Jimenez, 13, Mason Jimenez, 14, Ethan Phan, 10, and Maximiliano Remmele, 13. SOFLO age group coach Isidro (Issy) Planell was head coach.

Jen Amores, 14, of the Sharks was second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.65. She was also fifth in the 100 freestyle in 54.67. She competed in nine events and finished with 23 points.

Jianna Amores, 12, of the Sharks was second in the 50-yard butterfly in a best time 27.14, dropping 1.39. She was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in a best time 1:03.31, dropping 0.14. She also competed in nine events and totaled 42.5 points.

Elise Dinehart, 14, of the Sharks finished fourth in both the 100-yard freestyle in a best time 54.64, dropping 0.58 and 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.79, also a best time with a 1.23 second drop. She swam in nine events and finished with 18 points.

Connor Jimenez, 13, of the Barracudas was sixth in the 200 butterfly in a best time 2:13.76, with a time drop of 6.62. He had nine points.

SOFLO Swimmers Shine On Opening Day Of All-Star Meet

FORT PIERCE, March 24, 2023—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers, swimming with and against swimmers from around the state, had a good opening day at the Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Stars meet Friday at Indian River State College’s Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex.

A fun and exciting new four-team meet format is being used that mixes the top athletes from both Florida Swimming and Florida Gold Coast via a draft format. The All-Star meet is a winner-take-all, and one team will have bragging rights until next year.

Barracudas lead the combined (120) and are tied with the Sharks for first among boys teams with 32 points. The Gators lead the girls field with 31 points.

Jemma Baldwin of the Gators was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a best time 11:32.75, dropping 12.11 seconds.

Mason Jimenez of the Sharks was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:16.07 and Connor Jimenez of the Barracudas was fourth in the distance event in 10:47.38.

Maximiliano Remmele led off the Barracudas C 200-yard medley mixed relay that finished second in 1:45.99.

Laila Harran swam anchor on the Barracudas A 200-yard medley mixed relay that was third in 1:46.28.

Another Florida Gold Coast swimmer, Trace Colton of North Palm Beach, won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:24.07 for the Barracudas.

Eleven SOFLO Swimmers Headed To All-Star Meet This Weekend

FORT PIERCE, March 21, 2023—South Florida Aquatic Club has eleven swimmers and one coach on the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team for this weekend’s All-Star dual meet against Florida Swimming at Indian River State College’s Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex.

SOFLO has seven girls and four boys on the team for the three-day meet that runs from Friday night to Sunday morning.

The girls who qualified are Catalina Akpabio, 10, Jenesys Amores, 14, Jianna Amores, 12, Jemma Baldwin, 12, Elise Dinehart, 14, Laila Harran, 13, and Ellie Jackson, 12.

The boys who qualified are Connor Jimenez, 13, Mason Jimenez, 14, Ethan Phan, 10, and Maximiliano Remmele, 13.

SOFLO age group coach Isidro (Issy) Planell is head coach.

Florida Swimming Sweeps Team Titles; SOFLO’s Guillermo Mantilla Wins Twice In Final Session Of Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Stars Meet

PEMBROKE PINES, March 28, 2022—Gullermo Mantilla ended on a winning note for the Florida Gold Coast All-Stars in the fourth and final session of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast vs. Florida All-Star Meet Sunday at Indian River State College.

The 10-year-old South Florida Aquatic Club swimmer won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.97.

Mantilla was also a member of the 10-and-under relay that won in 1:47.43 with teammates Christopher Chaison, Kira Perry and Penelope Lopez-Casula.

Mantilla finished with five wins, four seconds and one third in ten individual and relay events over three days.

Other top finishes or time drops for SOFLO swimmers are:

SOFLO’s Guillermo Mantilla Continues To Shine In Third Session Of Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Star Meet

PEMBROKE PINES, March 27, 2022—Guillermo Mantilla of South Florida Aquatic Club is coming up big at the 2022 Florida Gold Coast vs. Florida All-Star Meet at Indian River State College.

In Saturday afternoon’s third session, Mantilla, 10, won the 50-yard freestyle in a best time 26.98, dropping 0.20 seconds. Mantilla was also second in the 200-yard freestye in 2:11.15.

Mantilla led off the second place 10-and-under 200-yard medley relay that finished in 2:08.95 with FGC teammates Eric Macedo, Luis Felipe Quingatuna and Christopher Chaison.

SOFLO’s Christie Ann Lumsden was a member of FGC’s winning 10-and-under 200-yard medley relay that won in 2:08.85 with FGC teammates Gia Euseppi, Jilliam Henriquez and Penelope Lopez-Casula.

After three sessions, Florida Swimming remains in the lead for all three categories and has already clinched the combined and boys team titles: Combined, 602-447; Boys, 305-196; and Girls, 267-233.

St. Andrew’s Wins First Combined, Girls Team Titles; Metro Aquatics Wins Boys Title; SOFLO Among Top Three Teams At FGC Junior Olympics

CORAL SPRINGS, March 13, 2022—South Florida Aquatic Club finished among the top three teams in combined, boys and girls after the fourth and final day of the Florida Gold Coast 14-and-Under Junior Olympics Championships Sunday at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

St. Andrew’s Aquatics, leaders for most of the meet, won the combined team title with 906 points among the 32-team field for the first time in 16 years. Defending champion Metro Aquatics was runner-up with 784 and South Florida Aquatic Club was third with 671.

St. Andrew’s topped a field of 25 teams to win the girls team title with 531 points followed by Metro Aquatics with 344 and SOFLO with 292.

Metro Aquatics won the boys team title with 440.50 points among 28 teams. SOFLO was second with 379, edging St. Andrew’s wit 375.

SOFLO 11-12 boys were the top age group with 198 points ahead of St. Andrew’s with 168.

SOFLO’s Guillermo Mantilla, 10, was second among high point with 66 points. Teammate Christie Ann Lumsden, 10, was eighth in high point with 37 points.

On the final day, Maximiliano Remmele was second in the 50-yard backstroke in a best time 29.37, dropping 0.38. Mantilla was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a best time 2:09.84 with a time drop of 7.20. Connor Jimenez was third in the 50-yard backstroke in a best time 29.62, dropping 0.73.

SOFLO’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay was second in 1:46.75 with Ethan Hall, Connor Jimenez, Ryan Harries and Maximiliano Remmele.

SOFLO’s boys 200-yard medley relay was also second in 1:58.79 with Maximiliano Remmele, Joseph Blake-Natino, Noah Mejias and Connor Jimenez.

Laila Harran was fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a best time 30.73, dropping 1.49. Lydia Smutny was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in a best time 2:13.51, dropping 3.46 seconds.

SOFLO’s 14-year-olds that made their final JO short course appearances were: Jaden Amores, Amelie Bicerne, Genesis Escobar, Katelyn Gembicki, Andres Gonzalez, Mia Guerrero, Derek Hau, Benjamin Kim, Tania Mantilla, Isabella Montes, Abraham Penaloza, Mariana Pinto, Carlos Rincon, Felipe Rodriguez and Sarah Vasquez.

The top six finishers in each JO event qualified for the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team for the March 25-27 All-Stars meet in Fort Pierce.

SOFLO Leads FGC Junior Olympics After Day One; Katelyn Gembicki, Connor Jimenez Top Finishers

CORAL SPRINGS, March 10, 2022—South Florida Aquatic Club took an early lead on Day One of the Florida Gold Coast 14-and-Under Junior Olympics Championships Thursday at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

South Florida Aquatic Club leads the combined (85), girls (42) and boys (43) team standings after opening day action.

South Florida Aquatic Club has traditionally done well at JOs. SOFLO has won ten overall combined short course team titles including nine straight until last year.

Metro Aquatic Club of Miami is defending champion after winning the title for the first time in more than ten years in March, 2021.

Depth, particularly in the distance events, was the name of the game for SOFLO on opening night.

SOFLO’s 11-12 boys led the age group competition with 27 points ahead of St. Andrew’s Aquatics with 18. SOFLO’s 13-14 girls led the age group competition with 22 points ahead of Swim Fort Lauderdale with 15. SOFLO 10-and-under boys are second with 10 points and 11-12 girls are second with 20 points.

SOFLO’s Juan Vallmitjana Wins Four Events; SOFLO Sitting Pretty Headed Into Final Day Of TYR SOFLO Open

PEMBROKE PINES, January 22, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club, buoyed by depth and talent, heads into the final day of action brimming with confidence in the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open.

After two sessions on Saturday, SOFLO remains in the lead in the women’s team standings with 1,025.5 points and men’s team standings with 1,035 points. SOFLO leads combined with a new record 2,060.50 points.

The last TYR SOFLO Open was held in 2020 when SOFLO swept the combined team title with a record 1,888 points; men’s title with 900.5; and women’s title with 987.5 points with 128 swimmers.

SOFLO young swimmers continued to steamroll through the third and final session of the day.

SOFLO boys won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:58.87 with Maximiliano Remmele, Ryan Harries, Connor Jimenez and Juan Vallmitjana.

Among SOFLO’s individual event winners were:

SOFLO and Comets Swim Team Booster Club is hosting a field of 420 swimmers during the three-day meet at Academic Village Pool.

The meet concludes Sunday with two sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. It is the first SOFLO meet of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast season.

SOFLO has the largest club with 179 swimmers (98 boys and 81 girls) in 1,244 individual events and eight relays with 59 relay teams.

Several Florida Gold Coast teams are entered including Metro Aquatics, SwimFast, Coral Springs Swim Club, Tsunami Swim, Ransom Everglades, Cyclones Swim Team, Hialeah Storm, Boca Raton Swim Team, Olympus, Hialeah and Hallandale-based Bravo Swim Team.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols are in effect in and around the facility. All people, excluding athletes actively participating in competition, warmup, and warm-down activities in the pool must wear a mask or face covering.

Spectators will only be permitted within a designated area, entering, and exiting through a single gate on the west end of the pool deck, and are encouraged to socially distance.

SOFLO Swimmers Shine On Final Day Of North Palm Beach Summer Kickoff

PLANTATION, June 6, 2021—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers had another successful day at the 13th annual North Palm Beach Summer Kickoff at Plantation Aquatic Club.

On the second and final day Sunday, SOFLO swimmers won nine individual events and had several time drops.

Jemma Baldwin, 10, was a double winner in the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:56.20, dropping 6.95 seconds and won the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 1:12.63, dropping 3.17. She had five wins and one runner-up finish over two days.

Individual winners were:

Gabriella DeLuna, 14, picked up where she left off on Saturday. She won the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:32.29, dropping 0.60. She was 6-for-6 in winning her events, all with lifetime-best times.

Derek Hau, 13, won the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:29.88 dropping a whopping 19.13 seconds. Hau was the only swimmer to crack 2:30 in the field. It was his second win of the meet.

Hashan Ekanayake, 14, won the 100-meter backstroke in a best time 1:08.40 with a time drop of 1.41. He was also second in the 400-meter freestyle in a best time 4:33.64, dropping 7.98.

Nicholas Pelaez, 14, won the 200-meter butterfly in 2:29.87.

Amanda Grubbs, 12, won the 400-meter freestyle in a best time 5:05.02 with a time drop of 1.68. She was also second in the 100-meter freestyle in a best time 1:06.85, dropping 1.38 and second in the 100-meter butterfly in a best time 1:12.91, dropping 1.38.

Connor Jimenez, 12, won the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:44.73 with a time drop 10.05.

Christie Ann Lumsden, 9, won the 50-meter breaststroke in 45.52.

The meet, hosted by North Palm Beach Swim Club, was the summer kickoff for the long course season.

SOFLO had 70 swimmers (43 boys and 27 girls) competing in 376 individual events with the majority swimmers having at least one time drop.

Among other Florida Gold Coast teams that competed were Azura Florida Aquatics, Boca Raton Swim Team, Swim Fort Lauderdale, Lake Lytal Lightning, Heritage Aquatics, Sunrise Swimming, Plantation Swim Team, Gulliver Swim Club, Swim Fast, Coral Springs Swim Club, North Miami Swim Team and host North Palm Beach.

Observing COVID-19 safety precautions, the meet was capped at 250 swimmers per session. No spectators were allowed at the meet. Face coverings were mandatory for all swimmers, coaches, officials and volunteers.
