SOFLO Swimmers End On Good Note On Final Day Of Coral Springs Open Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, April 28, 2019—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers ended with some more good racing and time drops Sunday at the Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

Leonardo Mateus, 17, was top SOFLO finisher with a second place in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:25.07. During the meet he was also 12th in the 200-meter freestyle and 21st in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Also in the 200-meter backstroke, Nate Garrick, 14, was fifth in a best time 2:35.81, dropping 2.18, and Adrian Hernandez, 13, was sixth in a best time, 2:36.43, dropping a whopping 15.26.

Also in the 200-meter backstroke, Fiorella Di Salvo, 11, was ninth in a best time 32.50, dropping 1.42.

Alejandro Mateus, 13, was eighth in the 100-meter butterfly in a best time 1:04.69, dropping 1.70.

Mariann Catalasan, 13, was top girls finisher placing seventh in the 200-meter backstroke in a best time 2:41.09. She dropped 6.83 seconds off her previous best.

Mariana Pinto was ninth in the 200-meter freestyle in a best time 2:22.47, dropping 6.51 seconds.

Alana Deo, 15, was tenth in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:25.54.

SOFLO had 97 swimmers (54 boys and 43 girls) compete in 472 individual events over three days.

In addition to SOFLO, some of the Florida Gold Coast teams that were in the field were Blue Marlins, City of Miami Parks, East Coast, Heritage Aquatics, Hialeah, Midtown Weston, St. Andrew’s Swimming and host Coral Springs Swim Club.

Among international teams that competed were Bulado Swim Club of Curacao and Orca Swim Club, also of Curacao. Shawn Neely, 16, leads Orca and is among top seeds in the boys breaststroke events and 50 freestyle.

SOFLO Swimmers Get Impressive Time Drops After Solid Day Of Racing At Coral Springs Open Invitational

CORAL SPRINGS, April 27, 2019—Against a strong field, South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers got in some nice racing which resulted in some good time drops Saturday on Day Two of the Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

In the boys 100-meter backstroke, Connor Jimenez, 9, and Alessio Mazzi, 12, had noticeable time drops.

Jimenez shaved 11.70 seconds off his previous best in 1:26.31. His seed time was 1:38.01. Mazzi dropped 6 seconds in 1:25.87, bettering his previous time of 1:31.87.

Alejandro Mateus, 13, was ninth in the 200-meter individual medley in a best time 2:28.04, dropping 4.61. He also shaved 4.88 in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:00.32. He was fifth in the 100-meter backstroke in a best time 1:09.06, dropping 0.54.

Garrett Oliver, 16, dropped 24.93 off his 100-meter backstroke in 1:11.49 to finish 14th. He dropped 8.26 in the 50-meter breaststroke in 35.85 and 3.25 in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.49.

Mariana Pinto, 11, also had three impressive time improvements. Pinto dropped 8.53 seconds in the 200-meter individual medley to finish 13th in 2:46.95. Her previous best was 2:55.48. She also dropped 4.16 off her 200-meter breaststroke in 3:20.85, also good for 13th. Her previous best was 3:25.01. She dropped 2.58 seconds off her previous time of 1:11.16 to 1:08.58 in the 100-meter freestyle.

Caterina Fogli, 11, had three nice time drops. She droped 10.35 in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:24.49, 9.03 in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:14.78 and 8.05 in the 50-meter butterfly in 37.11.

Alana Deo, 15, was 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke in a best time 3:13.25. He dropped 2.89.

SOFLO has 97 swimmers (54 boys and 43 girls) racing in 472 individual events over three days.

In addition to SOFLO, some of the Florida Gold Coast teams competing are Blue Marlins, City of Miami Parks, East Coast, Heritage Aquatics, Hialeah, Midtown Weston, St. Andrew’s Swimming and host Coral Springs Swim Club.

CORAL SPRINGS, April 26, 2019—South Florida Aquatic Club had three swimmers in the Top 10 on opening night of the Coral Springs Open Invitational at Coral Springs Aquatic Center’s Michael Lohberg Pool of Champions.

Mariana Pinto, 11, was fifth in the 400-meter freestyle in a best time 4:56.82, first time breaking 5 minutes in the distance event. Her previous best was 5:17.86.

Fiorella Di Salvo, 11, was fifth in the 400-meter individual medley in a best time 5:59.35. She dipped below 6 minutes for the first time. Her seed time was 6:05.01.

Logan Gonzalez, 14, led SOFLO boys with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley in a best time 5:24.14. His previous best was 5:40.28.

The long course meters meet will be timed finals.

SOFLO Sharks will have 97 swimmers (54 boys and 43 girls) racing in 472 individual events over three days.
