SOFLO Swimmers Will Compete In BSS TYR Summer Classic, XX FLA International Cup This Week

South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers will be busy with two four-day meets this week in Jacksonville and Pembroke Pines.

The Bolles TYR Summer Classic Long Course Meet features several top teams from Florida Swimming, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Virginia.

It will be prelims and finals for 13-and-over swimmers and timed finals for 12-and-unders.

SOFLO is sending 14 swimmers (eight boys and six girls) to the meet. They are entered in 76 individual events and no relays.

SOFLO’s Marc Rojas, 24, heads SOFLO’s contingent. Rojas, who represents the Dominican Republic internationally, will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Rojas is seeded first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.72 and 200 breaststroke in 2:17.93.

Rojas will be joined by teammates Jenna Marie Brames, 14, Juan Colmenares, 14, Kayla Cunningham, 15, Alex Golding, 14, Sally Golding, 14, Paige Lane, 15, Moises Rodriguez, 13, Rafael Rodriguez, 16, Javier Roman, 14, Mallory Schleicher, 14, Emma Twombly, 14, Christian Vasquez, 14, and Robert Douglas, 15.

Rafael Rodriguez is top seed in the 800-meter freestyle in 8:33.24; 400 freestyle in 4:05.97 and 200 butterfly in 2:05.46. Cunningham is seeded first in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:05.48 and 200 backstroke in 2:19.71. Roman is seeded first in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:20.66, 400 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Colmenares is top seed in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.45.

Some of Bolles top swimmers are entered including Ariel Spektor in the butterfly; Kensey McMahon in the 400 freestyle; and Jack Wessell in the 200 butterfly.

SOFLO will have 35 swimmers (19 girls and 16 boys) in the XX FLA International Cup Thursday through Sunday at Academic Village Swimming Pool. FLA is hosting the meet in SOFLO’s home pool.

All sessions are timed finals. The meet features 31 teams from Florida Gold Coast, the Caribbean and out-of-state.

SOFLO will compete in 197 individual events and no relays. Nicolas Rossi, 15, Fiorella Di Salvo, 10, Kaitlyn Consuegra, 12, John Paul Handal, 15, and Joseph-Blake Natino, 9, head the contingent.

SOFLO Boys Rock Pool; Javier Colmenares Triple Winner On Day Three Of FLA International Cup

June 25, 2017—South Florida Aquatic Club’s boys team turned in another outstanding day at the FLA International Cup Saturday at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

On the third day of competition, the SOFLO age group swimmers dominated the boys’ 9-10 and 11-12 age group races.

Javier Colmenares, 10, won three events with three best times. He won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:42.61; 100-meter breaststroke in 1:28.06 and 100-meter freestyle in 1:07.73.
Colmenares was also third in the 50-meter butterfly in 35.19, another best time. He has 69 points for high point.

SOFLO’s other boys’ winner was Enrique Rodriguez, 12, in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.45. Rodriguez has 35 points for high point.

Other top three finishers:

Juan Pinilla, 12, 200-meter butterfly, second, 2:41.67, best time. He has 22 points.

Alessandro Pereira, 10, 200-meter individual medley, second, 2:45.49, best time; 50-meter backstroke, second, 38.46; 100-meter freestyle, third, 1:09.43. He has 41 points.

Joseph Lee, 14, 200-meter butterfly, third, 2:22.24; 100-meter breaststroke, third, 32.79, best time. He has 14 points.

Leonardo Mateus, 15, 200-meter backstroke, third, 2:17.88. He has 25 points.

Anastasia Lutz, 10, 50-meter backstroke, third, 41.11, best time. She has 19 points.

Going into the fourth and final day, SOFLO boys are second in team standings with 328.5 points. Gator Swim Club leads the combined, boys and girls team standings.

SOFLO, among 25 teams competing including several from out-of-state, had 71 swimmers with 39 boys and 32 girls, competing in 448 individual events.

Pereira, Rodriguez Lead SOFLO On Day Two Of FLA International Cup

June 24, 2017—Alessandro Pereira and Enrique Rodriguez came up big for South Florida Aquatic Club on Day Two of the FLA International Cup Friday at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Pereira, 10, won the 400-meter freestyle in 5:08.25 and has 14 points for high point.

Rodriguez, 12, won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:51.70, with an impressive time drop of 28.58. It was the first time the young swimmer dipped below 5 minutes in the distance event. His previous best was 5:20.28.

SOFLO girls were led by top finishers Mariann Catalasan and Giada Porven.

Catalasan, 11, was third in the 400-meter individual medley in 6:38.58.

Porven, 9, was fifth in the 400-meter freestyle in 5:38.43 with a time drop of 6.36 seconds.

South Florida Aquatic Club is third among the combined teams with 177 points, the top Florida Gold Coast team. SOFLO boys are second with 128 points.

The four-day meet continues on Saturday at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

SOFLO, among 33 teams competing including several from out-of-state, has 71 swimmers entered with 39 boys and 32 girls, competing in 448 individual events.
