Cutler Bay Girls, Belen Jesuit Boys Win Belen Jesuit Invitational; SOFLO Swimmers Shine, Break Meet Records

MIAMI, October 15, 2022—Cutler Bay girls and host Miami Belen Jesuit boys won the the team titles at the Belen Jesuit Invitational Friday at Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center.

Cutler Bay swept all three relays and won seven individual events to total 175 points. Gulliver Prep was runner-up with 104.

All seven individual events were won by South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers.

Maddie Smutny and Olivia Dinehart were double winners for Cutler Bay.

Smutny won the 200-yard freestyle in a meet record 1:55.22 and 500-yard freestyle in a meet record 5:06.48.

Dinehart won the 200-yard individual medley in a meet record 2:07.92 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.29, also a meet record.

Other Cutler Bay individual winners were: Katelyn Gembicki, 50-yard freestyle, meet record 25.11; Natalie Gembicki, 100-yard freestyle, 53.76, meet record; and Elena Dinehart, 100-yard backstroke, 58.89, meet record.

Belen Jesuit, led by individual winner Ernie Cabrera and two relay wins, won the boys title with 127.5 points. Ransom Everglades was second with 77.

SOFLO’s Jaden Amores of Cutler Bay won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.10.

Indiana University commit Dylan Smiley of Miami Country Day was a double winner in the 200-yard freestyle in a meet record 1:46.51 and 100-yard backstroke in 54.50, another meet record.

Florida Swimming Sweeps Team Titles; SOFLO’s Guillermo Mantilla Wins Twice In Final Session Of Florida Gold Coast-Florida Swimming All-Stars Meet

PEMBROKE PINES, March 28, 2022—Gullermo Mantilla ended on a winning note for the Florida Gold Coast All-Stars in the fourth and final session of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast vs. Florida All-Star Meet Sunday at Indian River State College.

The 10-year-old South Florida Aquatic Club swimmer won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.97.

Mantilla was also a member of the 10-and-under relay that won in 1:47.43 with teammates Christopher Chaison, Kira Perry and Penelope Lopez-Casula.

Mantilla finished with five wins, four seconds and one third in ten individual and relay events over three days.

Other top finishes or time drops for SOFLO swimmers are:

Jaden Amores, third, 200-yard butterfly, 2:00.62; fifth 200-yard backstroke, 2:02.12, time drop 0.93.

SOFLO Dominates Final Session Of Plantation Swim Team Dual Meet; Jaden Amores Triple Winner

PLANTATION, February 12, 2022—South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers got in some good racing and fun in the third and final session of the South Florida Aquatic Club-Plantation Swim Team dual meet Saturday at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Jaden Amores, 14, won three events. He won the mixed 200-yard butterfly in 2:02.52; 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.52; and 100-yard butterfly in 56.18. He was also second in the mixed 100-yard backstroke in 58.69.

SOFLO teammate Nicholas Pelaez, 15, won the mixed 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.43.

SOFLO’s B women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was third in 1:56.11 with Sophia Rodriguez, Jianna Amores, Jenesys Amores and Kaylee Del Rio.

Vallmitjana, Bertea Lead SOFLO In PST Dual Meet Second Session

PLANTATION, February 11, 2022—Juan Vallmitjana and Armando Bertea led SOFLO in the second session of the South Florida Aquatic Club-Plantation Swim Team dual meet Friday night at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Vallmitjana, 13, won the mixed 400-yard individual medley in a best time 4:28.87, dropping 6.09 seconds off his previous best.

Armando Bertea, 15, won the 50-yard breaststroke in 22.46, also a best time shaving an impressive 13.62 seconds off his previous best.

SOFLO teammate Jaden Amores posted three best times in the 50-yard butterfly in 26.40, dropping 0.65; 50-yard backstroke in 27.03, dropping 0.84 and 50-yard freestyle in 24.55, dropping 0.43.

Renato Herran, 18, of Plantation Swim Team was a double winner in the 50-yard butterfly in 24.46 and 50-yard backstroke in 26.43.

The short course yards meet concludes Saturday with the third and final session at 8 a.m.

SOFLO has entered 125 swimmers (65 boys and 60 girls) in 714 individual events and 40 relays in four relay events in the three-day meet.

Spectators are allowed in a designated area. Spectators will be charged a $5 entrance fee (cash only).

SOFLO Swimmers Ready For FGC Senior Long Course Qualifier That Begins Friday

PLANTATION, February 4, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club is sending a small, but talented group of swimmers for the Florida Gold Coast Senior Long Course Qualifier that gets under Friday at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Swimmers and coaches are gearing up for the upcoming championship season starting with the two-day qualifier. SOFLO has 12 swimmers (28 boys and 17 girls) entered in 45 individual events and four relays.

The meet begins Friday at 5 p.m. with the mixed 800-meter freestyle. Two sessions are scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

SOFLO swimmers competing are: Jaden Amores, 14; Gabriela Avila, 15; Amelie Bicerne, 14; Hashan Ekanayake, 15; Marvan Ekanayake, 15; Nathaniel Garrick, 17; Felix Gonzalez, 15; Sofia Hernandez, 16; Dahlia Hirsh, 15; Stephen Kim, 16; Nicholas Sachade, 15; and Christian Tijero, 16.

Heading the strong competitive field are U.S. junior national team member Erika Pelaez and Kaii Winkler of Eagle Aquatics; Patrick Doyle of Sunrise Swimming; Jesse Washington and Logan Watson-Brown of Sharks Swim Club; Mariana Cote, Midtown Weston; and Sebastian Lobaton and Renato Herran of Plantation Swim Team.

Nineteen teams will compete. In addition to SOFLO and host Plantation Swim Teams, other teams are Azura Florida Aquatics, Boca Raton Swim Team, Eagle Aquatics, Harbour Amateur Swim Club, Heritage Aquatics Team, Jupiter Dragons, Midtown Weston, North Miami, North Palm Beach, PAQ, Sharks Swim Club of Bermuda, Shelton Doral, Sunrise Swiming, Tornadoes Swim Club, TS Aquatics, Tsunami and Warwick Academy.

SOFLO Wins Combined Team Title; Juan Vallmitjana Wins Five Events On Final Day Of TYR SOFLO Open

PEMBROKE PINES, January 24, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club won the combined, girls and boys team titles Sunday at the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open at Academic Village.

SOFLO won the combined team title with a club record 3,869.50 points. Ransom Everglades was second with 1,159.50.

SOFLO won the girls team title with 1,936 points and boys team title with 1,933 points.

SOFLO swimmers earned three of the four boys’ high points awards. They were Guillermo Mantilla, Juan Vallmitjana and Jaden Amores. The girls earned one high point award with Olivia Dinehart.

The girls’ competition opened with an exciting 200-yard freestyle relay race where Ransom Everglades (Emma Larralde, Bianca Montalvo, Katya Linfield, Athena Dyer) just edging out SOFLO (Jemma Baldwin, Jianna Amores, Sofia Gomez, Mackenzie McPherson), 1:51.48-1:51.79.

The remaining events turned out to be a battle between SOFLO, Ransom Everglades, Metro Aquatics and SwimFast swimmers.

SOFLO’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay of Joshua Menezes, Maximiliano Remmele Connor Jimenez and Juan Vallmitjana won in 1:47.85.

The last TYR SOFLO Open was held in 2020 when SOFLO swept the combined team title with a then-record 1,888 points; men’s title with 900.5; and women’s title with 987.5 points with 128 swimmers.

This year SOFLO had 179 swimmers (98 boys and 81 girls) in 1,244 individual events and eight relays with 59 relay teams.

SOFLO and Comets Swim Team Booster Club hosted a field of 420 swimmers during the three-day meet at Academic Village Pool. It was the first SOFLO meet of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast season.

Several Florida Gold Coast teams entered swimmers including Metro Aquatics, SwimFast, Coral Springs Swim Club, Tsunami Swim, Ransom Everglades, Cyclones Swim Team, Hialeah Storm, Boca Raton Swim Team, Olympus, Hialeah and Hallandale-based Bravo Swim Team.

SOFLO’s Amelie Bicerne, Jaden Amores Triple Winners During Fourth Session Of TYR SOFLO Open

PEMBROKE PINES, January 23, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club’s Amelie Bicerne and Jaden Amores came up big during the fourth session of the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open Sunday at Academic Village Pool.

Bicerne, 14, won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.80; 50-yard backstroke in 31.46 with a time drop of 1.79; and 100-yard freestyle 58.55. She finished with 57 points in high point.

Amores, 14, won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.76 with a time drop of 5.18; 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.92; and 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.82. He finished with 95 points.

SOFLO swept the girls and boys 200-yard freestyle relays to open the meet.

The girls’ team of Ana Villamil, Gabriela Avila, Katelyn Gembicki and Nat Gembicki won in 1:44.14. The boys’ team of Manuel Melendez, Alexander Miller, Derek Hau and Javier Colmenares won in 1:33.83.

SOFLO won nine girls individual events and nine boys individual events.

Ransom Everglades Sweep District 12-1A Titles, SOFLO Swimmers Dominate; Benjamin Girls, Lincoln Park Boys Win District 9-1A Titles At Indian River

MIAMI, October 20, 2021–It was a great day for South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers at the FHSAA District 12-1A Swimming Championships Wednesday at Ransom Everglades.

Auburn University commit Olivia Dinehart and Maddy Smutny were double winners for Cutler Bay and teammate Elena Dinehart was an individual winner.

Olivia Dinehart won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.36 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.79.

Maddy Smutny won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.84 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.19.

Elena Dinehart won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.56. She was also second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.57.

The foursome of Elena Dinehart, Olivia Dinehart, Maddy Smutny and Nat Gembicki were members of the winning 200-yard medley (1:51.62) and 400-yard freestyle relays (3:39.92).

Gembicki was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.82 and third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.44.

Izzy Wilson of Carrollton was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:13.30.

Sophia Grubbs was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.87 and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.10.

Ivan Grass was a double winner for the Cutler Bay boys. Grass won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.57 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.91.

Cutler Bay’s 400-yard freestyle relay won in 3:25.77 with SOFLO swimmers Adrian Hernandez, Ivan Grass, Austin Nelson and Alexander Miller.

Cutler Bay’s 200-yard medley relay won in 1:46.40 with SOFLO swimmers Nelson, Miller, Jaden Amores and Hernandez.

Jaden Amores was also second in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.46 and third in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.40.

Hernandez was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.53 and third in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.61.

Nelson was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.43 and 100-yard backstroke in 57.55.

Miller was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.43. Nicholas Pelaez of Cutler Bay was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.62.

The 1-meter diving is scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Next up the Region 4-1A meet at NSU Aquatic Center on Oct, 29 at 10 a.m.

SOFLO Swimmers Dominate Day Two At Boca Raton Swim Team Phoenix Invite; Jemma Baldwin, Jaden Amores Triple Winners

BOCA RATON, June 20, 2021–Mother Nature obviously did not get the memo about the three-day Boca Raton Swim Team Phoenix Invite at Boca Raton High School Aquatic Center.

Unfortunately, inclement weather cancelled Sunday night’s finals and top qualifying swimmers were unable to get two races in.

However, meet organizers were able to get the 12-and-under and 13-and-over prelims which will be considered timed finals since finals will not be made up.

South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers had another good day dominating the prelims in both age group divisions. SOFLO girls won every event except for four. SOFLO boys won all but four events.

Ten SOFLO Swimmers Will Compete In Southern Zone Open Water Championship This Weekend

HIXSON, Tenn., June 3, 2021—Ten South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers will represent Florida Gold Coast this weekend at the Southern Zone Open Water Championship at Chester Frost Park.

The 2021 Chattanooga Swim Fest will feature the Southern Zone Open Water Championship and Chattanooga Rat Race.

The Southern Zone Open Water Championship is for Zone All-Star Teams selected by their LSC.

Individual races will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. and relay races on Sunday on 8:45 a.m. The zone event on Saturday is for swimmers ages 11 and 12 in the 2K; 13 and 14 in the 5K and 15 and 16 and senior open in the 5K.

On Sunday, there is a 1K relay race for 11 and 12; 1.2K relay race for 13 and 14 and 1.2K relay race for open swimmers. Swimmers will check in on Friday and also be able to see the course and warm up. A zoom meeting for athletes and officials will also be held.

The meet, hosted and sponsored by SES Swimming and McCallie/GPS Aquatics, is being held about 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Chester Frost Park is on Lake Chickamauga and Tennessee River, with the greater portion of the park cradling Dallas Bay.

The team was selected off the Florida Gold Coast Open Water Swimming Championship in Pompano Beach.

The FGC will be represented by SOFLO All-Stars Jaden Amores, 13-14; Elise Dinehart, 13-14; Ivan Grass, Open; Ryan Harries, 11-12; Juan Vallmitjana, 11-12; Isabelle Wilson, 15-16; Olivia Wilson, 11-12; Nat Gembicki, 15-16; Leo Mateus, Open and Alejandro Mateus, 15-16.

Other FGC All-Stars are: Reese Andres, Rylie Barnhardt, Adrianna Barone, Lilia Blanco, Addison Byrne, Caleb Caponera, Caleb DaSilva, Andreas DaSilva, Leslie Dame, Julia Freshour, Riley Garcia, Steven Gary, Giovanni Gianfriddo, Ian Meiselman, Francesca Ninova, Bree Silva, Evelyn Smith, Lillian Smith, Marcus Szabo and Lucas Young. The head coach is Cathy Silveira.

Awards will be distributed to the top eight finishers and top three team relays. The top five teams will also be awarded trophies.

The start is an in-water start and finish will be an out-of-water finish chute. The race course is a rectangular in a bay with no current.

Paddlers and escort boats will be spaced throughout the course under the supervision of the race committee to provide help to swimmers as needed. USA Swimming Rules will govern any interaction with escort crafts.

The Central Zone Open Water Championship is June 18-19 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisc. and Eastern Zone Open Water Championship is June 26 at Lake Quassapaug in Middlebury, Ct.
