Izzy Wilson Top SOFLO Finisher At Southern Zone Open Water 5K Championships

DeLEON SPRINGS, Fl., May 14, 2022—Izzy Wilson was South Florida Aquatic Club and Florida Gold Coast’s top girls’ finisher at the Southern Zone Open Water Championships Saturday at Camp Winona YMCA.

Wilson, 16, was second in the 5K 15-16 age category in 1 hour, 2 minutes and 25.6 seconds for the 3.1 mile race. Claire Stuhlmacher, 16, of Florida Swimming finished first in 1:01.34.2.

Andreas Da Silva, 14, was Florida Gold Coast’s top boys finisher, placing second in the 13-14 5K in 1:01:35.8. Dillon Brigman, 14, of Florida Swimming won in 59:42.9.

SOFLO’ top qualifier is Natalie Gembicki, 17, was tenth among the open 5K swimmers in 1:07:27.2. The time bettered her previous 5K time of 1:13:22.

Amelie Bicerne, 15, was 27th in the girls 15-16 in 1:11:27.3.

Jemma Baldwin, 12, was sixth in the girls 11-12 2K open water race in 27:58.9.

Juan Vallmitjana, 13, was 27th in the boys 13-14 1:12.01.9.

Ryan Harries, 13, was 29th in the boys 13-14 1:12:57.4.

Ivan Grass, 17, was tenth in the open boys in 1:05:22.0.

Sunday’s events at 8:45 a.m. feature the 11-12 2K Team Pursuit Race; 13-14 2K Team Pursuit Race; 15-16 2K Team Pursuit Race and Open 2K Team Pursuit Race.

SOFLO Swimmers Compete This Weekend At Southern Zone Open Water Championships

DeLEON SPRINGS, Fl., May 13, 2022—After checking in, swimmers got a chance to warm up Friday for the Southern Zone Open Water Championships Saturday and Sunday at Camp Winona YMCA.

South Florida Aquatic Club will be well-represented on the Florida Gold Coast zone team with seven swimmers in the two-day event hosted by Hydro4 Swimming and Florida Swimming.

Florida Swimming has won the event for the past three years followed by North Carolina, Gulf Swimming and South Texas Swimming.

On Saturday at 8:15 a.m. the 11-12 2K, 13-14 5K and Senior Open and 15-16 5K races will be held.

Sunday’s events at 8:45 a.m. feature the 11-12 2K Team Pursuit Race; 13-14 2K Team Pursuit Race; 15-16 2K Team Pursuit Race and Open 2K Team Pursuit Race.

The 5K course is a rectangular shape with multiple buoys placed on the course to identify the course boundaries. The start and finish are in-water. The races are being live streamed on YouTube. Results will be posted on Florida Swimming’s open water swimming page.

The water depth off the dock is 15 feet and water temperature is expected to range from 72-78 degrees.

SOFLO’ top qualifier is Natalie Gembicki, 17, who was SOFLO’s top girls’ finisher in the FGC local qualifier placing second in the 17-and-over 5K in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 22 seconds for the 3.1 course off Pompano Beach Pier.

Other SOFLO swimmers are: Juan Vallmitjana, 13, Alexander Miller, 16, Jemma Baldwin, 12, Izzy Wilson, 15, Amelie Bicerne, 15, Ivan Grass, 17 and Ryan Harries, 13.

Seven SOFLO Swimmers Make Open Water Zone Team; SOFLO’s Mallory Schleicher Wins Open Water 2K

POMPANO BEACH, May 1, 2022—South Florida Aquatic Club had seven swimmers qualify for the zone team Friday at the Florida Gold Coast Swimming Open Water Championships off Pompano Beach Pier.

Natalie Gembicki, 17, was SOFLO’s top girls’ finisher placing second in the 17-and-over 5K in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 22 seconds for the 3.1 course.

Juan Vallmitjana, 13, and Alexander Miller, 16, were SOFLO boys’ top finishers, both placing their in their age groups. Vallmitjana finished in 1:10:15 for 13-14 and Miller finished in 1:10:19 for 15-16.

Joining Gembicki, Vallmitjana and Miller on the FGC zone team are Jemma Baldwin, 12, Izzy Wilson, 15, Amelie Bicerne, 15, and Ivan Grass, 17.

Mallory Schleicher, 19, was SOFLO’s lone winner in the girls 2K in 16:27, nearly three minutes ahead of Coral Springs’ Reese Maxwell in 19:25.

The Southern Zone Open Water Championship is May 14-15 at Camp Winona YMCA in DeLeon Springs.

Fifteen SOFLO Swimmers Compete In FGC-FL All-Star Meet; SOFLO’s Mantilla, Vallmitjana Top Finishers On Day One

PEMBROKE PINES, March 25, 2022—South Florida Aquatic Club has fifteen swimmers competing at the 2022 Florida Gold Coast vs. Florida All-Star Meet Friday through Sunday at Indian River State College.

The talented swimmers assembled on the Florida Gold Coast All-Star team, who qualified at the FGC Junior Olympics at Coral Springs are: 10-and-under, Christie Ann Lumsden; Guillermo Mantilla and Toma Petkov; 11-12, Jemma Baldwin, Laila Harran, Ryan Harries, Connor Jimenez and Joseph Blake-Natino; 13-14, Jaden Amores, Jenesys Amores, Amelie Bicerne, Elise Dinehart, Amanda Grubbs, Lydia Smutny and Juan Vallmitjana.

SOFLO age group coach Isidro (Issy) Planell, based at SOFLO’s Miami campus, is a member of the All-Star coaching staff for the 13-14 boys. In 2020, he was All-Star coach for the 11-12 year olds.

On a chilly Friday, Juan Vallmitjana, 13, and Guillermo Mantilla, 10, were SOFLO’s top finishers.

Vallmitjana was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a best time 9:51.62, dropping 36.29 from his entry time of 10:27.91.

Mantilla was also third in the 500-yard freestyle in a best time 5:48.24, dropping 3.30 seconds from his entry time of 5:51.54.

Mantilla was also a member of the winning 10-and-under mixed 200-yard medley relay in 2:03.90 along with Eric Macedo, Kira Perry and Penelope Lopez-Casula. FGC also won the 11-12 relay.

Florida Swimming leads Florida Gold Coast in combined 87-51, boys 33-12 and girls 24-21.

SOFLO’s Guillermo Mantilla, Boys’ 11-12 Relay Win Big On Day Three Of FGC Junior Olympics

CORAL SPRINGS, March 12, 2022—Guillermo Mantilla won his third event of the meet and boys’ 11-12 400-yard medley relay won on Day Three of the Florida Gold Coast 14-and-Under Junior Olympics Championships Saturday at Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

Mantilla, 10, was the only swimmer to dip under a minute in the 100-yard freestyle field winning in a best time 58.96, dropping 2.13 seconds.

It was the first time Mantilla cracked 1 minute in the event. His previous best was 1:01.09. He was second fastest in prelims bettering his previous best in 1:00.48 and then came back to crush it again.

Earlier in the meet, the talented age grouper also won the 100 backstroke (1:08.56) and 200 IM (2:29.92), also best times.

Christie Ann Lumsden, 10, was SOFLO’s top girls finisher placing third in the 50-yard breaststroke in a best time 36.91, dropping 1.78 seconds.

Juan Vallmitjana, 13, was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in a best time 4:52.71, dropping 13.60 seconds off his previous best.

SOFLO’s boys 11-12 400-yard medley relay won in 4:17.39 with Maximiliano Remmele, Joseph Blake-Natino, Noah Mejias and Ethan Hall ahead of St. Andrew’s in 4:18.76.

South Florida Aquatic Club is third in the combined team standings with 456 behind St. Andrew’s Aquatics with 582.5 points and Metro Aquatics with 513.

South Florida Aquatic Club is third in the girls team standings (201) behind St. Andrew’s Aquatics and is second behind Metro Aquatics (255) in the boys team standings.

SOFLO leads the team rankings for the boys 11-12 with 122 points ahead of St. Andrew’s Aquatics with 109.

SOFLO qualified 59 swimmers for the second consecutive year. Thirty-one boys and 28 girls are competing in 285 individual events and relays.

SOFLO’s 14-year-olds making their final JO short course appearance are Jaden Amores, Amelie Bicerne, Genesis Escobar, Katelyn Gembicki, Andres Gonzalez, Mia Guerrero, Derek Hau, Benjamin Kim, Tania Mantilla, Isabella Montes, Abraham Penaloza, Mariana Pinto, Carlos Rincon, Felipe Rodriguez and Sarah Vasquez.

Vallmitjana, Bertea Lead SOFLO In PST Dual Meet Second Session

PLANTATION, February 11, 2022—Juan Vallmitjana and Armando Bertea led SOFLO in the second session of the South Florida Aquatic Club-Plantation Swim Team dual meet Friday night at Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Vallmitjana, 13, won the mixed 400-yard individual medley in a best time 4:28.87, dropping 6.09 seconds off his previous best.

Armando Bertea, 15, won the 50-yard breaststroke in 22.46, also a best time shaving an impressive 13.62 seconds off his previous best.

SOFLO teammate Jaden Amores posted three best times in the 50-yard butterfly in 26.40, dropping 0.65; 50-yard backstroke in 27.03, dropping 0.84 and 50-yard freestyle in 24.55, dropping 0.43.

Renato Herran, 18, of Plantation Swim Team was a double winner in the 50-yard butterfly in 24.46 and 50-yard backstroke in 26.43.

The short course yards meet concludes Saturday with the third and final session at 8 a.m.

SOFLO has entered 125 swimmers (65 boys and 60 girls) in 714 individual events and 40 relays in four relay events in the three-day meet.

Spectators are allowed in a designated area. Spectators will be charged a $5 entrance fee (cash only).

SOFLO Wins Combined Team Title; Juan Vallmitjana Wins Five Events On Final Day Of TYR SOFLO Open

PEMBROKE PINES, January 24, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club won the combined, girls and boys team titles Sunday at the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open at Academic Village.

SOFLO won the combined team title with a club record 3,869.50 points. Ransom Everglades was second with 1,159.50.

SOFLO won the girls team title with 1,936 points and boys team title with 1,933 points.

SOFLO swimmers earned three of the four boys’ high points awards. They were Guillermo Mantilla, Juan Vallmitjana and Jaden Amores. The girls earned one high point award with Olivia Dinehart.

The girls’ competition opened with an exciting 200-yard freestyle relay race where Ransom Everglades (Emma Larralde, Bianca Montalvo, Katya Linfield, Athena Dyer) just edging out SOFLO (Jemma Baldwin, Jianna Amores, Sofia Gomez, Mackenzie McPherson), 1:51.48-1:51.79.

The remaining events turned out to be a battle between SOFLO, Ransom Everglades, Metro Aquatics and SwimFast swimmers.

SOFLO’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay of Joshua Menezes, Maximiliano Remmele Connor Jimenez and Juan Vallmitjana won in 1:47.85.

The last TYR SOFLO Open was held in 2020 when SOFLO swept the combined team title with a then-record 1,888 points; men’s title with 900.5; and women’s title with 987.5 points with 128 swimmers.

This year SOFLO had 179 swimmers (98 boys and 81 girls) in 1,244 individual events and eight relays with 59 relay teams.

SOFLO and Comets Swim Team Booster Club hosted a field of 420 swimmers during the three-day meet at Academic Village Pool. It was the first SOFLO meet of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast season.

Several Florida Gold Coast teams entered swimmers including Metro Aquatics, SwimFast, Coral Springs Swim Club, Tsunami Swim, Ransom Everglades, Cyclones Swim Team, Hialeah Storm, Boca Raton Swim Team, Olympus, Hialeah and Hallandale-based Bravo Swim Team.

PEMBROKE PINES, January 22, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club, buoyed by depth and talent, heads into the final day of action brimming with confidence in the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open.

After two sessions on Saturday, SOFLO remains in the lead in the women’s team standings with 1,025.5 points and men’s team standings with 1,035 points. SOFLO leads combined with a new record 2,060.50 points.

The meet concludes Sunday with two sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. It is the first SOFLO meet of the 2022 Florida Gold Coast season.

SOFLO has the largest club with 179 swimmers (98 boys and 81 girls) in 1,244 individual events and eight relays with 59 relay teams.

Several Florida Gold Coast teams are entered including Metro Aquatics, SwimFast, Coral Springs Swim Club, Tsunami Swim, Ransom Everglades, Cyclones Swim Team, Hialeah Storm, Boca Raton Swim Team, Olympus, Hialeah and Hallandale-based Bravo Swim Team.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols are in effect in and around the facility. All people, excluding athletes actively participating in competition, warmup, and warm-down activities in the pool must wear a mask or face covering.

Spectators will only be permitted within a designated area, entering, and exiting through a single gate on the west end of the pool deck, and are encouraged to socially distance.

SOFLO’s Olivia Dinehart Double Winner; SOFLO Leads After Day One Of TYR SOFLO Open

PEMBROKE PINES, January 21, 2022–South Florida Aquatic Club swimmers won six individual events Friday on opening night of the TYR South Florida Aquatic Club Open.

Olivia Dinehart, 17, was a double winner. She won the 100-yard individual medley in 59.75 and 400-yard individual medley in 4:35.13.

Other SOFLO winners were:

Christie Ann Lumsden, 9, won the 200-yard freestyle in a best time 2:23.03 with a time drop of 2.13. She has six events left to swim.

Mackenzie McPherson, 12, won the 200-yard individual medley in a best time 2:30.25 with a time drop of 3.58. She was also fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:14.04.

Javier Colmenares, 15, won the 100-yard individual medley in 54.97.

Juan Vallmitjana, 12, won the 200-yard individual medley in a best time 2:12.93 with a time drop of 3.28.

The timed final meet begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. with the 200 freestyle, 100 individual medley, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley. The meet continues Saturday with two sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Several Florida Gold Coast teams are entered including Metro Aquatics, Swim Fast, Tsunami Swim, Ransom Everglades, Cyclones Swim Team, Hialeah Storm, Boca Raton Swim Team and Hallandale-based Bravo Swim Team.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols are in effect in and around the facility. All people, excluding athletes actively participating in competition, warmup, and warm-down activities in the pool must wear a mask or face covering.

Spectators will only be permitted within a designated area, entering, and exiting through a single gate on the west end of the pool deck, and are encouraged to socially distance.
